KOMO Hum

Is it just me, or does anyone else hear a low-level hum on KOMO? As I punch around the AM dial to KIRO, KJR, KTTH....and then I hit KOMO, I hear this hum on the air, as though there is an open pot on the board. I even hear it during the M's games. Does anyone else hear it?

Yeah, I hear it too. Methinks it's preparation for their upcoming format change to all-Zen chants.

Me Three. I Know Why! It might be of the headphones in the studio, you know how some headphones makes hums or buzzs, right?

I doubt it's from headphones....or it could be from a bad headphone jack in the studio. What I can't understand is that no one in the building has noticed it, which makes me believe they are listening to the console product and not the on-air product. But there is a definite low-level and loud HUM that I hear all the time on the station. It has to be from a bad wiring connection or an open pot (that I can't imagine), or a bad mike wiring (but I hear it through spots, too).

Bad connection to the Microwave transmitter going to the towers?
or Bad Connection to the Receiver of the Microwave transmitter isnt properly
connected to the Transmitter

NOBODY has heard low level hum until they've heard KBRC. I've heard the KOMO hum and it's NOTHING compared to what's on 1430 kHz......

KPUG is another serious hummer.....

All AM radio has hum. That is why there is FM. Ya ya good

I've heard hum on FM that's much worse than any I've heard on AM. It's time for a phone call to KOMO. And no not all AM's hum. More FM's across the country hum than AM's.

AM & FM stations may have hum. But fortunately, NONE of them ya-yas.

I'm only a 3 min drive from the KOMO transmitter site (got a gret view of the towers as I write this). The Hum is there I can hear it. Did not listen long.

My thoughts. If the hum Increases and decreases in loudness then most likely the hum is before the audio processing. If the hum stays at a constant level then it is after the processing.

Being that it is AM (amplitude Modulation) problems like this can manifest themselves in the actual transmitter. They could try switching to their 50KW backup transmitter and see if the hum is stil their then look further up the air chain.

So their are two easy things to do that might help determine where the problem is, Listen careully and switch the transmitters.

I am just glad mamma is back. I was afraid we would be reduced to talking about AM hum. We need to address the important subjects like KQMV's future.

Komo lost the best AM/FM engineer in May in Kelly Alford, so not suprising. Who's running the wayward ship now?
I don't know, but not many radio pro's like Kelly.

I think the news product sound very good at KOMO, but without the Mariners, will anyone care?

Kiro must have something up the sleeve on the news front. Like all news on the am except Seahawks and Mariners games. Doing a good job selling 97.3 in the new slogan.

I do find myself looking for my oldies fix every once in a while. No one else coming close to filling the void.

Fisher/KOMO did not "lose" Kelly Alford

I believe it was the other way around.

And I've heard the separation was mutual. So I guess we'll never know what really happened.

Kelly? Dude, maybe you can separate this mess.....

A couple days ago, I did not hear a hum on KOMO. So, problem solved!!! ;D
