BTW, there isn't anything stopping Fisher from an LMA on the Cougar 104.5 to cover the eastside/ Snohomish Co. part not covered by 97.7.

What I thought about today since hearing about this about since hearing this is why Fisher couldn't at least "test drive" 104.5 for a year and see what happens? There's a big upgrade in the cards once CHHR gets the testing nod and KAFE skooches over to 104.1, which could happen any day now giving an automatic nod for 104.5 to go Cougar. KFMY seems such a purely South Sound signal from where they are.....

Is KFMY going to keep their calls or become KOMO-FM? (a'la KUOW-FM Seattle and KUOW Tumwater?)

I've heard a few blurbs about it today via KOMO on the internet (The HUGE gaps of dead air in the spot breaks online are GHASTLY.) Maybe they could fill those in with some kind of online exclusive stories or something, just for the sake of continuity.....

Well that will certainly help them in the Seattle-Tacoma market! I can hear the promos now.."KOMO News, Now Number one in Centralia Washington!" "What's that, there are no ratings in Centralia??"

Consider this bit of synergy: Dennis Kelly has in the past consulted for Bonneville, including WTOP in DC. WTOP is the poster child for moving to FM, where the ratings have been great for 3+ years. The bottom of the hour ID now says: 'WTOP, the most-listened-to station in the nation, from Arbitron PPM.'

WTOP also has two other FM signals, one in Frederick MD about 40 miles to the north. The other in Warrenton, VA, about 35 miles southwest. It creates a seamless listening experience up I-95 from Richmond, VA to Baltimore MD -- more than 150 miles.

Now, KOMO cuts a deal with an FM to south. Could more such deals be coming? Or could the competition (Bonneville) be interested?

I wouldn't be surprised if some Seattle stations take a run at buying or leasing one of the stations in the Twin Cities or even Longview to create that seamless sound. Maybe to the north, as well. Mt. Vernon, anyone?

....except for that crummy sounding translator Mr. Keane has for KBRC on 102.1 which is a rimshot in much of Mount Vernon proper (the translator is on Camano Island.) It sounds even worse than the AM signal. KOMO could make it something worth listening to better than Keane & Co.

Gosh, I didn't realize all the south sound broadcasters (with the exception of KXXO) were so chummy.

Never get to listen to "Roxy" anymore now that KMIH has 94.5 translator, which is fine.

Too bad KRQT "Rocket 107.1" gets crushed by Warm 106.9 here in South King County.  The only time it ever comes in up here is in the summer months when the RF gods open up a tropospheric duct in the sky.  Other than that, the Rocket 107 ad running on 97.7 is useless to us here in the Puget Sound area.

I do like how South Sound Broadcasting at least lets the DJs announce the future of the station, and lets them say their goodbyes, like what they did at the old KAYO before it became KDDS. At least the listeners know, unlike CBS radio or Clear Channel, where people there are told to not say anything, even though they know they are going to be shown the door a few days later...

Our engineer says the signal moved to its new site about a month ago and it is pretty damn strong and loud Much more presence than KIRO-FM and I listened from Bothell 405 all the way to Southcenter with no issue, plus a stop at Bel Square. Eastside is strong too I got to think the cowboys at KFMY knew when the signal became a Seattle signal they would be leaving at least I hope someone bothered to tell em :-\ KIRO-FM has definitely got some competition from a combo and it should be a rodeo to watch. KOMO must have the upperhand with a strong AM and an FM that is more than just a south end signal, somebody at Fisher was thinking for a change :-X Running ads for competitors is just smart business and hope some of the talent will get jobs there too Don't mean to beat a dead horse by KJR-AM and KNBQ seem a perfect combo but the problem is call letters cause there already is a KJR-FM ???

This is a long-standing tradition when a station is about to switch owners/formats. One of best advertising opportunities is to redirect audience to the former competitors...why not make some $$ doing it? KOL's last day, for example, was full of ads for KJR & KING. Good for Greg for going after those "prospects"!!
