KOMP...LOTUS....Lobby....

The Lotus facility is a TOP Notch vegas meca for radio, BUT the other day when KOMP was doing a Live broadcast in the lobby of the station.....it sounded like crap... can the "room" be fitted with acoustic foam panels or turn a meeting room into a " live venue"????

and it helps if the "dj" doesn't stand in front of the band's monitor while on the air!!! feedback!!! LOL!!! just my 2 cents. thanks.

disclaimer, I'm the Lotus Las Vegas Chief Engineer. The lobby of our station was never inteneded to be a performance hall. It's acoustics don't seem to lend them self well to that application. Thursday's performance was a bit of a mess with the intended performer not showing up and two other groups pressed in to service at the last mnute. Equipment problems bugged us, and Carlotta learned real quick not to stand in front of the monitors, a lesson she knew but had forgotten in the rush to get something decent on the air and for our studio audience. Carlotta is a superb professional but was a bit flustered by the turn of events. Same equipment, same location, same Carlotta friday probably sounded a lot better. Same exact studio but a chance to set it up carefully in advance and the talent that was scheduled, showed up. The stage band equipment in use for the band/talent is Sweet Al Miller's from the KOMP morning show and he did a great job of interfacing stage band gear to our broadcast system. My apologies for problems on Thrusday, but hopefully the great live broadcast of Frday might have made up for it.

bilco: "The lobby of our station was never inteneded to be a performance hall"... exactly.... So don't make it one..... turn a meeting room into mini studio, think outside the BOX. make it better. heck, have concerts outside in the parking lot.... build a mini-stage, anything is better than the lobby. IMHO. thanks.

only1..... yeh great idea concert in the parking lot. The temp that day was 114 degrees. While I didn't get an actual count, I doubt we have any rooms in our building including our big new conference room that would have held the standing room audience we had. Outside the Box? Well just FYI when we added the new studio building on the north east side, I had electrical boxes placed on the outside of the building to house the mic inputs and other things needed for our mini concerts to be held in the patio area there for those times when the weather was a bit more temperate. I'm way out of currency on my EMT certification so I think I'd rather avoid the heat stroke a concert outside in Las Vegas summers would create.
Bilco.
