KONN-FM One FM?

Ratings for KONN-FM The One FM haven't been so hot. You think they're going to last or they going to flip? What do you think of it? Is it a good station or a crappy one, musically, jocks, etc.?

One FM has only been on the air for 5 months. No way is there any indiciation on how they are doing right now. Ratings for One FM last book didn't show up because for a majority of the winter book they were the old Sassy. The spring book they pulled a .9 but that's only for Phase 1. Let's see how Phase 2 and the full spring book relates to any pick up in the ratings. IMO One FM sounds great. The presentation and direction of the station is top notch. The jocks are great. Jocks that were around when we had KISS FM. Musically they sound good. They pick up on new music quicker then KS, Alice or Mix (especally faster then KS) and they present the music and formatics good. Now is just waiting on the old time factor to see how they do. Way way to early to say at this point.

Well....

The second phase of Arb Spring book was released and so far KONN has gone from a .9 to a 1.0. By my calculations, and I am no rocket scientist, that's only 1/10 of a share higher. I don't think there is anything wrong with being an idealist. However; bad planning, programming, and management will sink a station faster than the Lusitania. When you've got people like Tim Maranville, Jerry Dixon, Davin, "Blake...gulp...Powers" (God, please don't let the bile come up), and all other assorted rejects of the radio industry, you have a BIG problem. Also, take a look at the moniker: "The beat of Denver". WTF does that mean? By industry standards, that would indicate they are an urban station. By my deduction, having Kelly Clarkson, 3 Doors Down, and Chris Daughtry in your playlist does not make you an urban station. Not to mention the totally moronic antics of Davin at a concert that KQKS was presenting (yes, I was one of the 5 people that watched the video on YouTube). He instantly gave away his insecurity and frustration with himself and the station he was representing. You could see it in his face and hear it in his voice about how angry he was. He acted totally unprofessional and made an ass of himself in the process. Also he pissed off not only people at KQKS but also the entire market and the LEGITIMATE stations that operate in it. The problem is that the people in that building (both at Martini and One) know that their days are numbered and when they get thrown on the street they will not set foot in another radio station again. I suppose that's why they can't get anywhere. I would post the link to the video on YouTube where Davin was acting like a moron, but it has since been taken down. I do recall, however, that in the video he said 'I am going to let KS 107.5 know what it's like to have a little competition' Folks, I think the opportune word here IS little.

Mr McCorkle...calm. The Beat of Denver doesnt do it for you? Ok. But to cite "industry standards" to prove your point, which basically means "for those in the radio industry" is short-sighted. Who cares what radio people think unless they're the ones filling out the diaries? One of the problems plaguing radio is narrow thinking like you're exhibiting. Put it all in a little box.
I dont care about this station, never even heard it but it sure has gotten under your skin, so much so that you're trashing people. Stay classy Stuart

As I was visiting, I thought they sounded pretty good. I agree that "The Beat of Denver" is a bit confusing, but they are clearly trying to go for the KS107.5 crowd (but with just a more mainstream presentation). Musically, they were very current. I don't think I heard a song older than 2 years old when I listened. They fit the hole in the market between KS107.5/The Party and Alice/Mix.

The main achilles heel to the station will always be the signal. Now matter what format you put on there, it will have trouble getting more than a 2. When I was there a couple of weeks ago, they (along with KTNI) seemed to be operating on just the low power transmitter from Aurora. When I was driving eastbound on I-70 toward Limon, I was expecting the signal to be strongest around Byers and Strasburg, since that is where their main transmitter is near. But instead the signal got weaker. Does anyone know if there were/are operating on low power?

I've listened to KONN when i visited Denver and they sound good, i hope they can really Fill a void there and perhaps climb in the Ratings. Not sure why Alice never just went full TOP-40 ??? ???

Good luck to Denver Radio, at least now you have another option besides KS............

I love how all of the no-talent ass-clown jocks at KONN are constantly trying to prop themselves up on this site.

A previous poster was dead-on: when KONN goes belly-up, all of their jocks, who have already been fired from every radio company in the market....twice, will never work radio in this market again. KONN's parent company is where radio careers go to die.

Again, not a listener to the station but it sure seems to be bothering some people. That makes me suspicious that something good is happening there. Wow, to use a hackneyed (look it up NoJuice) phrase like no talent ass clowns shows how bright you are.

I was in Denver just last week and I checked out ONE-FM. I liked it but after reading some these posts on here and hearing elsewhere, kinda curious...

Are 107.1 and 101.5 still in bankruptcy or did they get out of it? I noticed quite a bit of ads for both stations ( bus stops and billboards ) such as the giant billboard for 101.5 right on Speer ( across the street from KMGH and FOX 31 ). If these stations are still having money problems, it is unusual for such stations to spend so much money on ads unless of course 107.1 and 101.5 really believe they have a winner right off the bat. Or better yet did these stations really filed bankrputcy in the first place? A good friend of mine who lives near 107.1 off Parker Road was telling me what happened to her one morning when she was on the bus. She was telling another woman about these stations, where she read in the local paper where they filed bankruptcy only to have some guy stand up on the bus and point to her and screamed "..everyone knows that channel 9 and the Rocky Mountain News are a bunch of god-damned liars". He was wearing a 107.1 ONE-FM T-shirt she was saying.

Lets see here....the owner of thse 2 stations had filed bankruptcy. Most if not all of the old Sassy 107 airstaff gets fired. Both 107.1 changes format and they have a new staff ( and I would imagine the old Sassy staff is getting unemployment ). 101.5 changes format too and now all these ads.
Seems to be a lot of money is being spent on these two stations. I don't know..all of this seems a bit odd to me.

Anyway 107.1 sounds good to me when I checked them out. I wish them well !!

Well the ratings are in for the Summer 1rst book and Top-40 KONN-Fm has pulled a 1.0, its making a little progress,
seems much better than Sassy ever did. Maybe Top 40 will finallly do well in Denver this time :)
