KONO 101.1 Now Playing 90’s Music

Just a couple of songs I noticed that were added to KONO’s playlist recently, maybe it’s that’s time again where the target demo is aging. The early 90’s music I expected them to add at some point, but was a bit surprised to see Rob Thomas and Santana’s hit from 1999 on there.

While it has seemed classic hits stations have been slow on adding 90's music, “Smooth” is older than the last Beatles and Supremes albums were when FM oldies stations began proliferating in 1988.

Adding 90's music on oldies stations have been there for some time. I know Entercom Owned KRTH Los Angeles has been adding 90's songs though to get the target demo in their oldies venue for some time though. But thats been expected and how much of the early 2000's should be included for now is up for debate.

KONO doesn't play the Peanut Butter Mix of Groove is in the Heart. I remember listening to that going home from work around July or late August on that station. They played the 4:51 album version, which is the same version that MTV aired back in the day.

Remember when Hot 103 KTFM played the Meeting of the Minds Mix but cut off the short instrumental before the second verse along with Q-Tips' rap before the last chorus of the song?

BTW, the Meetings of the Minds mix was re released back in 2017 and no station has played that mix since the demise of KSAQ Q96fm. Most stations stick with the Peanut Butter Mix without Bootsy Collin's adlibs.
