Hey Don62, I just checked KONO's last songs played. they don't play "Stand By Me" and they haven't played "Unchained Melody" in two days?
Yup. Another slide into mediocrity.
Buddy Holly? Never heard of him.
Roy Orbison? Who's he?
Sunny & The Sunglows (San Antionio-based "Talk to Me"). They didn't have a top 10 hit. Can't play 'em.
An "oldies" station that won't play
real oldies, let alone admit they play "oldies."
The oldest tracks still heard on KONO as of 2008 (that I know of):
My Girl by the Temptations (1964)
You've Lost that Lovin' Feelin' by the Righteous Brothers (1964)
Baby I Need Your Lovin' by the Four Tops (1964)
And I Love Her by the Beatles (1964)
I Can't Help Myself by the Four Tops (1965)
It's the Same Old Song by the Four Tops (1965)
Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers (1965)
Day Tripper by the Beatles (1965)
We Can Work It Out by the Beatles (1965)
Yesterday by the Beatles (1965)
Turn Turn Turn by the Byrds (1965)
Tracks of My Tears by Smokey Robinson (1965)
It's Not Unusual by Tom Jones (1965)
I Can't Get No Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones (1965)
I'd call these the only surviving "true oldies" left on KONO. Of course they're surrounded on the station by 90% of 1970s music and some classic rock! I'd bet that the above tracks will be off the air by 2010. I guess its a harsh reality of radio and business.
