Kool 101 Off The Air

Well, Hurricane Irene is but a couple of days away from reaching New England, but somehow, Kool 101's radio signal is off the air. I heard a two-minute music bed with no talking at about 7:10 AM - that was probably related. Later, Rockin' Ron Carson (in for Jim Reed) is informing listeners that they're on the air through their Internet stream at the moment.

Perhaps Mr. Reed can fill us in on what happened when he gets back.

Transmitter and antenna work is being performed at the WKNL transmitter site related to the CP to go 6kw.

Other than that, hiccups happen!

While work continues on the 6KW antenna and transmitter installation, Friday's problem was related to something failing in the Main transmitter. As luck would have it, our Aux was in the process of being dismantled to make way for the new 6KW box. Whatever failed was replaced and the station returned to the air. We have a portable Quest at our sister-station site but it was not needed. But given what happened, I'm inclined to have them haul it up there until the installation is complete.

Thanks for the update, Jim... and welcome back! (Even though Rockin' Ron is a exceptional substitute.)

By the way, not sure about the FM signal, but the Kool stream is down at this time.
