Last night when I was listening to kool 1040, on my sony walkman SRF-59 series, I could here a spanish station underneath, just curios what part of mexico is that spanish station is coming from.
There's XEGYS (1kW day / 0.25kW night) in Guaymas, Sonora: that's a port city on the Sea of Cortez - if you went about half way down the Baja peninsula, turned left, crossed the pensinsula and the Sea, you'd end up in Guaymas. That seems to be the closest station.
No, very few are directional. Most used reduced night power, non-directional, to provide the required international agreement protection. It's more common to find US stations directionalized to protect Mexican stations, in fact.
