KOOL 94.1

The new KOOL is on the air and for the most part I like it.They are playing some good tunes and I hope that continues. But why would you run workday liners on
January 1st when 80% of your audience isn't working??? I also heard Mac Davis'
Hooked On Music at 1:28 this afternoon??? Don't get me wrong I love that song but was not a pop hit at all.It was a big country hit in 81.That song musta been left over from Hank and some numbers got mixed up somehow. The Rolling Stones Let's Spend The Night Together" followed Mac.The imaging is good except I hate those preproduced "Oh I Love Your Station" barter stuff with the people with Vermont accents.I would never use those but especially when you've only been on the air 12 hours they sound so fake but that is just a pet peeve of mine. Also the sec tones are off at the end of some of the songs and sometimes the songs die completely before the jingle kicks in.I like the music.I hope they continue to add to the playlist.I've already heard Billy Joel's Tell Her About It two or three times in what little time I have listened.Overall the station is off to a good start.. it needs personality now.....It sounds like somebody said to me today A jukebox playing oldies. I'm sure all the bugs will be worked out and by spring 94.1 will get some numbers.I was happy to hear "Stumblin In" by Suzi Quatro & Chris Norman and A Girl Like You by the Rascals.I just hope they don't play them to death. Imus on a music intensive station is risky but I understand them trying to capatilize on the ballyhoo of him being back on the radio.I applaude Inner Banks for trying this format and I now have them on a preset. 107.9 has nothing to worry about as long as they have great talent
like Moreland,Diamond,Max & Donna being live and local and serving the listener.
If KOOL wants to play ball they are going to have to get live and local. There is alot of overlap musically with the two stations and 107.9 has the signal and the people so right now I don't think anyone at Beasley is losing sleep. It is KOOL
to have another station that I can listen to.All this is just my opinion and Happy New Year!!! I wanna hear The Other Guy by the Little River Band.......

The more I listen to the station the more it sounds like a rush job.I hear The Joker then 2 seconds of dead air into a liner into a re-record of Rock Your Baby by George Mcrae which is not nearly as good as the original......They have got to tighten things up.At 9pm the ID plays into an Ultra 90 spot.I think Marylin has bought stock in the company. The sound quality from a technical standpoint is very good.Eddie is simply a great engineer.Hopefully the content will improve. It is early and the station has great potential. There are alot of little things that make the station sound like it is not being paid the proper attention.Thunder is the top priority and it just sounds like Kool needs more TLC.This happens alot when you try to run two or three stations with one staff, the little things fall between the cracks.Again it is very early in the game. 94.1 has unlimited potential... Again I ain't trying to make anybody mad, this is simply as always my opinion and I'm no genius.... I think its great that we have another oldies station.Lots of people are talking about Kool which is great but at this point Beasley need not worry.I wanna hear Ships by Manilow....

I agree, but Eddie, PLEASE do something about 94.3's audio quality! It is starting to sound like the old horrid days of 98.3 WCZI's quality. Bob and Sheri sounded good on 94.3, so why can't the news/talk hosts?

And Allen... how on earth are you hearing 94.1? My radio won't pick it up over 94.3's interference.

I get in in my car pretty well.I've got five or 6 radios in the house including a nice Boston Accoutics and Sangean and 94.3 kills 94.1.I can tune the Sangean to 93.9 and hear Kool a little but 93.9 in Raleigh kills it.The radio in my Toyota is a simple factory Pioneer and it could hear Kool in Snow Hill today. Its not perfect but its very audiable.I was in Snow Hill visting my Dad's grave when I got in the car and heard the Mac Davis tune just before 1:30pm.Eddie will get 94.3 right. He is good.I do miss sporting news radio though.Eddie had alot to do in a very short time and the simple fact that he got 94.3 on by January 1st is amazing. If I had a station he's my guy hands down.I have know alot of engineers
in my day and Eddie is at the top of my list along with my friend Al Cannon,Doug Ferris,Gary Saber(what a neat guy.. he is one of a kind), Richard Banks,Joe Hartman, Carl Lineburger and Bill Cope. Bill does great stuff for Pirate Radio and is a very nice man.I have alot of respect for radio engineers. Its getting harder to find guys who really know AM.Gene Gray was also very good.WRQR & WFAG(WGHB) sounded great in the 70's and 80'sThe newer guys don't deal with AM much.It seems to be becoming a lost art.I really admire so many of the engineers
I have had the priviledge to meet over the years.I respect what they do...

It is good that the Coast has another Oldies station.
Now who's idea was it to make 1070 Christian?
Why not try a true Oldies format?
You know 50s and early 60s music that is largely missing from 94.1 or 107.9
On the Coast I think it might work.

1070 sounds horrible playing music with the way they are rolling off at 5khz to allow for HD. You can hardly hear what song is even playing.

As for 94.3, the sound quality has already been fixed! Sounds a lot better than it did yesterday.

I was gonna approach the Beasley folks with the 50's & 60's idea but I found out they had already decided to go Christian.I like some of the music 1070 is playing but it does need work soundwise. The Beasley engineers are good, they'll
fix it..

I really believe that 50s and early 60s music could work in Eastern NC and I am hoping someone will do it.
Side note I was hoping that is what WMPM would do when it returned to the air.

W00T, I heard the distortion as well. I have changed the STL, and it has helped. I am trying to figure out this audio path, It has had about 5 radio stations using this same line and I cannot bore under the pavement to install a new audio cable. Have to deal with the old line for now. The temp STL had a bad op amp and it sounded like poo. I have had a lot on my plate over the past 4 weeks, as I had to build a complete station and program the automation ( thank God for Prophet!!). Once the dust settles, I will get this stuff resolved. Thanks for the Kind comments from all of you Guys, Allenv has a little more insight as to what I have had to do. He has been a great moral support . ED

Anyone have a contact at Inner Banks? Are they in search of a PD for KOOL? I have extensive Prophet experience.

Eddie I don't see how you did it man.You had some help but most of it was you.
I know you also had to deal with other stuff while you were there as well, not to mention New Bern and 94.1.Buscemi was a great help as well I'm sure.He is top notch. When did you sleep Eddie??? I sure hope Henry & the crew realize
what a tremendous undertaking the 94.3 thing was and I hope they appreciate you accordingly. I saw where it was to start and where it is now and I can't believe what you did in what little time you had to do it.You must have a clone
or something...

I was picking up Jared from school and listening to Kool around 2:20 this afternoon. They played a Burning Love re-record that was actually done in 1980.
Felton Jarvis got together some of Nashville's best session players for what was to be an album of Elvis duets with the top country stars of the day.The duet idea was dropped, but new instrumental tracks were added to about 30 songs. The result was the Guitar Man LP which yielded a #1 remake of Guitar Man,Lovin Arms and You Asked Me To were also country hits in 1981.Most of the tracks were shelved until 2001 when the FTD label relesed them on a disc called Too Much Monkey Business and it was that version of Burning Love that I heard on Kool today.I played it in the mornings on Hank as a Friday drive to work song.We got a lot of request for it.It is a great track with a driving guitar
and great piano work. They must have just seen the title and thought it was the original. It rocks.I hope they leave it in. On the down side I not hearing anything much that 107.9 isn't already playing. I'd say 85% of the tunes overlap
I'm now hearing liners talking about the largest record library in Eastern NC.
Well Ok prove it, play some stuff they you don't hear on 4 other stations.
Also heard Tell Her About It-Billy Joel AGAIN. Come on guys, if you say variety,
do it......Some liners say KOOL 94 and some say KOOL 94.1 which is it???
Where are some humans??Personality is the key to oldies. Inner Banks has the money...you gotta spend some to make some.I really want KOOL to do well.
Yeah, I work in radio but first and foremost I'm a fan of good radio.KOOL has a great chance to carve out an identity for itself but it ain't gonna happen sounding alot like 107.9 musically with no jocks This board is all about opinions
and this is mine. I'm just glad I have a place to state my opinion.Come on KOOL
show me something!!! You have the talent and the resources to turn the listeners and the advertisers heads.

Allen

I out and and about a little while ago and heard KOOL 94.1 airing The Big Kahuna
Beach Party".It is a great show. Jammin 99 in Rocky Mt still airs it too I think.
Clay has a terrific show and is a very nice guy.I applaud KOOL for picking up the show and congrats Clay on picking up another station. You are a talented
gentlemen...

Allen

Kool has added some tunes that are good to hear and I heard Dylan on this afternoon.I heard a jock liner but the station faded out. I hope he is still using
Dylan McKay.I applaud Kool for adding some good stuff..

Allen

I heard an artist liner that included Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield of The Righteous Brothers.I love Bill and Bobby alot but Bobby died 11-5-03 but he is glad you are listening even though he has gone to that great stage in the sky.
