Kool 98.3 Changes

They're planning a "relaunch" on Monday "with a refined format of hit songs from the 60's through the 80's"... Looks like they're shuffling their jocks around, and bringing in new ones... Jerry Blavat's daily show is going to be moving from 5-7 PM to 7-9 PM.

Does the Geator's show remain from 5-7 PM on WVLT, I wonder?

Well, at least the format is going to still remain classic hits in a way, just a little tweak here and there. We already know where Wild is heading, and some can also wonder what is in store for the great white shark if they will do some tweaking or flipping to a more modern rock direction.

Been sampling WTKU this week... My gosh... Have they always played Paula Abdul's "Straight Up" alongside the likes of Creedence Clearwater Revival? :-\

I think the changes where well needed!, I'm also excited to see they have Mike Bowe on the weekends!.. So far the new ownership and really been turning things around, lets hope it stays this way!

Am I the only one who thinks that Jerry Blavat's act is really old and almost unlistenable to? Thank God they put him on @ 7 and moved him off the 5PM shift and that Jackson T Chase is back in the afternoon, because there is only so much of the Geator I can take.

Is it because I didn't grow up listening to him??

There are a handful of people who will always follow Blavat like he's the second coming. He was good many years ago, but the live broadcasts are horrible. He doesn't sound inclusive to the audience on the radio, as he usually only mentions people who are attending the live event.

He used to play really good r&b oldies, but I don't know where he gets some of the tunes he plays now. Really bad, and not related to the sound he was once known for.

If its not the same few doowop or motown songs that he has spun for decades, most of the content is too unappealing for most people I talk to.

I agree. Blavat is one of the most annoying jocks I've ever heard. I also agree that the Memories at Margate show is purly a club show. Blavat pays NO attention to the radio audience and there is a feeling of exclusion. The guy talks all over the music, makes refrences to people and things we can't see. A good radio communicator can do "theater of the mind" to transport the listener to the scene. No attempt at that here. I can only asume thar Blavat buys the time for the broadcast. There really IS a time when old jocks need to hang up the microphone. Was he this annoying back in his prime? Jackson T. sounds great and he's a joy to listen to.

Glad I am not the only one! Over the years I have always wondered about folks who seem to lose sight of the mass radio audience when doing a remote. There are folks that do make you feel a real part of the event even when listening on the radio and then there are folks who turn off the radio audience...Blavat is one of those. You are correct...the Memories Show is absolutely unlistenable. The combination of the music, his presentation, and the egotistic way he conducts the program is incredible.

I am so glad that Jackson T is back in the afternoon. Frankly, I wasn't listening to the juke box version of Cool so I am glad that there are folks back behind the mic!
