KOOL.....ANY QUESTIONS??

I remember the KOOL Gold studios which were in the same building as KOOL FM back when it was around 20th street on Camelback road. This was in 1992. I remember how they had a map in the studio that showed where all their affiliates were. They had listeners all over the country.

Playing 50s music was a viable thing in those days, and AM radio was typically the place to do it. KOOL am played the 50s and KOOL FM played the 60s and early 70s in those days. Nice combo.

I resided in Phx late 70s to about the middle 90s. I enjoyed Kool-Gold selections much more than its Fm counterpart. I sent kind of a nasty letter to the station management where both the AM and FM djs broadcasted out of, around 18th & Camelback or so. I suggested that the 960 station far outshined the Fm spot and complimented their 'Oldies' format so much that they should just simulcast the Am station on the FM side for higher quality sound that would come out of our speakers. Even though most of the tunes that were played at that time might have been on monoral vinyl 45s, over FM they would have sounded better. I payed a visit later to the station, and what do you know, my 'nasty' letter was posted on the 'shared' bulleton board!
