KOOL billboard?

When is the last time KOOL had a billboard, and what did it specifically advertise?

I saw a KMLE/Tim & Willy billboard this afternoon on 24th St. just north of McDowell. Curious as to when KOOL had their last shot.

Haven't seen a KOOL billboard for a while now. The last one I remember seeing was when the logo was the sunglasses with a "K" before it and an "L" after it. Couldn't tell you exactly when that was, though.

Also, there's another Tim and Willy KMLE billboard on Grand Ave and Thomas Road / I-17 area. When your going outbound on Grand Ave., it's on the left side of the street. The more you know! :)

tim & willy billboards at "Grand Ave and Thomas Road / I-17 area" and "24th St. just north of McDowell"

it's no wonder why kmle ratings are at HISTORICAL LOWS

Lots of Country Music listeners in those hoods ::) Just wondering if those are Clear Channel or CBS Billboards?

knowing cbs...this could have gone either way. either they are cheap enough to allow cbs outdoor to re-create the classic ice cube movie "boardz in da hood" ....or....dumb enough to buy "boardz in da hood" from clear channel

again...flip a coin on this one.

you couldn't get a dui w/ kmle's 25-54 share these days.

Man, that's sad. I'm no country music fan but KMLE has to have the best FM signal in all the Valley - or did have at one time.

Well, if you're seeing a billboard in the city, yeah, it's kind of most likely in "da hood" or maybe in a real business area like along Central Ave from McDowell to Camelback. You don't see any in Arrowhead Ranch, North Glendale, or North Scottsdale.

But about the KOOL billboards...

It's been a while since the Nurse and I've seen any billboard for KOOL. But we consider all billboards to be visual blight, whether in da hood or toney Scottsdale (which nips them in the bud). The most obnoxious are those giant halogen-lit boards along the freeway which blind your vision at night. Just as lethal as texting.

Both CBS and Clear Channel are known for throwing up boards for their stations in areas with unsold inventory.

Out on a rural highway near me, there's 4 Clear Channel radio boards, one CBS radio board, and all the other boards owned by another outdoor firm are for lease. With the housing market in the tank, the developers aren't putting up boards for homes they can't sell out here.

The problem you have in Phoenix with billboards is they're zoned out of existence in most neighborhoods, and what's left is either along the freeway or in an older part of town, and those older parts have become ghetto fabulous.

I think there's still one board at Scottsdale Road & Thomas that's been grandfathered in. Like Zorba's, it set up shop before the city decided it was too nice for those types of things.

I think they ought to outlaw billboards completely. But if they don't then some enterprising station will put their morning show on one of the new electronic ones so people stuck in traffic have something to watch as they creep along. If there are enough billboards back-to-back you might catch an entire segment on your way to the salt mines.

Tons-o-boards just south of the 202 Santan, between I-10 and the 101.
Of course they're all on Indian reservation land.

(Cue the Raiders...or even Don Fardon. ;D)

...or how 'bout Signs by the Five Man Electrical Band?

And either song would certainly be appropriate on a KOOL-FM billboard.

Maybe that section of the 202 should be renamed as the Freeway Of Love.
(Just trying to young-up the demos a bit more. The Old Gringo is watching, ya know. ;D)

KOOL Listener Lauren, you are very prophetic!

I just saw yesterday whilst driving around town a KOOL billboard! This was the first KOOL billboard I have seen in a very long time. Similar to the KMLE billboards, it was on a small-size billboard in a very "interesting" area. I saw it in Phoenix on outbound U.S. 60 Grand Avenue on the right side of the road just before Indian School Road. This is a pretty industrial area and, in my opinion, not the most desirable neighborhood. I can't remember what it said, but it was a fairly simple looking billboard with blue writing that said something along the lines of "The Valley's Greatest Hits." I was pleasantly surprised to see it! Has anyone else seen KOOL billboards around town?

Now, all we need are some KAZG billboards. These could also be placed along outbound Grand Avenue between Indian School and Camelback where the power-lines and industrial factories somehow interfere with the AM 1440 signal and allows you to hear something along the lines of CB radio conversations. These billboards could say, "the Valley's REAL Oldies Station!*" or "Hear all your favorite oldies in crystal-clear AM Stereo on 1440 KAZG!*" Then, in small writing that only lawyers can read will be this disclaimer: "*Limited time offer, restrictions apply. Oldies can only be heard when the lamptimer is actually plugged in and the goldminers aren't on strike. Operative from 6:00 A.M. - 7:00 A.M. if Sandusky decides to turn on the low power transmitter during the winter months. No oldies between the hours of 7:00 A.M. - 10:00 A.M. due to Roy Garibaldi's Lollapalooza and between the hours of 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. due to Kim and Don's Magic Show live from Easley's Fun Shop and Bill Johnson's Big Apple. Plus, good luck hearing anything after sunset as the Miner 49er's hi ho, hi ho back home in order to get some sleep. Check out our live on-line stream at: http://www.???.com."
