KOOL DETRACTORS, FROM ABOUT A YEAR AGO....WHAT SAY YOU NOW??

I ain't gonna listen to christmas music much at all.. never do. XM has several channels changed already for this.. BTW on the HD 2 it would be KOOL if there were some new liners.. I prefer to listen to XM 70's on 7 instead of the tired hard drive liners.. All this $$$ that has gone towards promoting HD and the programming lacks.. Two FM's have their AM's on the HD2 , KUPD has KDUS 1060 and KNIX has KFYI on the HD2

They had to adjust the music mix for the rapidly changing demo's and I'm with ya, KOOL has done it very well !!

It's paying off and will continue to pay-off in the ratings game!

Yeah, but I'm talking about the "mix" of the playlist, literally. I thought it often sounded not so well, like an iPod on shuffle. Don't know what it is, but the "mix" and flow of the music is sounding great since I noticed Sunday night. OldiesFan has nailed it in his quote below.

In some limited listens over the past 3+ days... I've noted
a heavier dose of '60s songs back in the mix.

Previously it seemed as if it was a "That '70s Weekend" to a large extent
every day.

Weekdays did seem too much like a "That 70s Weekend," didn't it?

Check out this music tweak. In two samples of the 6AM-12PM hours of average weekdays, before and after Sunday (11/15):

The...
Likelihood of a 60s song has increased 14.3%
Likelihood of a 70s song remains the same.
Likelihood of an 80s song has decreased 28.5%

Before the latest tweak, occurrences of 70s nearly double the occurrence of 60s in an average hour.

60s and 70s are now more evenly distributed in an average hour.

An 80s song still occurs on average of one play per hour.

Speaking of nailing it, a shout out to PhoenixAirchecks.com
(and whoever runs the site ;)) for winning the KESZ flip pool,
as Christmas music started this morning, November 20.

Meanwhile, KOOL is still holding off (with NFVG promos that
"it's too early"). Hey PD Kris--anything before December 23
is too early!

And as for the '60s: "9:14 with the Four Tops...more winners,
more often!" Actually it was 9:24 with the Tops reaching out.

To add to the comments from KLL and airpab..

Just heard the Four Tops (and I don't mean one of their tunes on Dunhill).

Though The Tops are tops in every decade during which they recorded, have to say that "Just Can't Get You Out of My Mind" on ABC/Dunhill was one of the best things they ever did! Would be great to hear it on KOOL!

They must be borrowing that Gumpdusky Lamptimer when not in use at the Lumberyard ::)

Yeah, KOOL sounds better now that they're reelin' in the years and paying closer attention to the way it sounds. However with that Sirius/XM in the Gremlin, Nurse Czarina Jeff and I've pretty much abandoned terrestrial FM music stations. Sorry... technology happens!

Sorry Doc--your theory would otherwise be spot on, however in this case I
was actually channeling someone else with that "9:14 with the Four Tops..."
obscure reference. :)

I stopped listening about 8 months ago. They sound like they are trying to be KSLX.

The best oldies station (like KOOL used to be) is WLS FM out of Chicago.
I listen on the internet now... http://www.947trueoldies.com/

RIP KOOL

To the contrary, RIP WLS-FM. It's somewhere around #15 in 25-54, while KOOL is hovering at 2nd in the sales demos in its market.
