KOOL-ECTOMY PERFORMED

For Oldiesfan there's always "Brown Eyed Reindeer" by Van Morrison ;) ;)

KOOL can program whatever they wish on 94~five as that frequency has been removed from all the radios at the Media Hut, plus our '76 Gremlin. That'll teach CBS to mess around with Nurse Jeff and me!

Reiny Day Woman (Dylan)

Who'll Stop the Rein? (CCR)

Have You Ever Seen the Rein? (CCR)

Or, the Christmas version of "You Never Even Call Me By My Name", by David Alan Coe:

Well the elves were drunk the day that Santa got out of prison
And they went to pick him up in the sleigh
But before they got to the station with the reindeer
He got runned over by a damned toy train

(OK, so I'll never make it in Nashville! Or even Buckeye. ;D )

Performed by David Alan Coe, written by the late great Steve Goodman.

You still need Mama and a Truck for this to be the perfect country and western song.

OK, replace Mama and the truck with Santa, elves, sleigh, and reindeer. With gettin' drunk, prison, and a (toy) train mentioned, you still have the perfect country and western Christmas song. ;D

KOOL is doing it again "all weekend" as noted this (Friday) evening.

I'm not sure what time they started it--I heard what seemed to be
normal format sometime in mid-afternoon, although Jack's page has
today's top 5 at 5 as all Christmas songs.

And no scourge of Tom Kent tonight!

Geez, I think I'd even enjoy a "Motown Weekend" over this. Or a
Van Morrison weekend.* ;D Of course, a Motown Weekend on an
oldies classic hits station is pretty much redundant.

Meanwhile, it appears KESZ may have flipped--anyone know when?

Their website is holiday-decorated and I'm hearing all Christmas tunes
during several spot checks of this evening's (Delilah) show...BTW, what
is this pap she is spewing? Is that her schtick? It's horrible. Compared
to Delilah, listening to practically anything else--even Tom Kent--is a
pleasure. ;)

*: Closed-circuit for PD Kris--don't get any ideas!

All I want to hear for Christmas is Kinky Friedman's

"They Ain't Makin' Jews like Jesus Anymore."

And Nurse Jeff and I thought "As*hole From El Paso" was a classic!

While KEZ was caught off guard by KOOL's premature start, they recovered quite nicely and will win the battle of All Ho-Ho-Music. A risky crapshot for KOOL because their strong ratings momentum could come to a screeching halt in the last month and a half of the Fall book. Contrary to what the See BS'ers think, this is a format geared primarily toward women and KEZ owns 'em. Add Beth & Bill, the Fox 10 connection and it's easy to see who the likely winner is of this battle.

KOOL's Morning Show was playing Christmas music (if Santa Claus is Coming to Town by Springsteen qualifies) this morning.

The 30 minutes listening they formerly got from me each weekday just vanished.

BAH! HUMBUG!!!!!

I can't believe KOOL would switch this early to all Christmas music. We already have KEZ 99.9. We don't need two of them! KOOL is just asking to kill their great standing in the most recent ratings.

One of NFVG's promos mentioned (paraphrasing) "if you miss
the oldies and '70s songs you can hear them on koolradio.com,
and they'll be back on 94.5 after the holidays."

Note that is not a plug, but rather it prefaces a closed circuit
to PD Kris--dude, you're doing this totally bassackwards!

45-46 more days of this? Some of these holiday songs are
going to get as much airplay as Brown Eyed Girl does in
regular format. Ah, we're hearing McCartney's Christmas
song once again. ::)

Goddard might as well voicetrack his whole show and not just
the 1-3pm part. You didn't know he was live only 9-1 and
tracked 1-3? Oh yeah, it's pretty easy to tell. Just like
the previously revealed Jack-tracked 7-8pm hour.

Keeping score on weekdays--local/live: 12 hours, syndication
or voicetracking: 12 hours. So half of the broadcast day,
including two hours of middays, is "farmed out."

And I didn't mention Tom Kent's name once in this post...oops. ;D
