KOOL-FM is still playing Christmas music after December 25th

KOOL-FM 94.5 (CBS-Radio Phoenix) is still playing Christmas music after December 25th without the DJ but not playing oldies until Monday.

Two weeks ago CBS laid off Camelback Jack from KOOL-FM and Stu Evens from KMLE Country.

I'd normally ask if you have a solid source for their delaying the flip back to
normal format until Monday, however when it was still ::) Wonderful Christmastime
at noon Thursday, then Thursday evening, Friday morning, this morning, etc.,
it does seem apparent the nightmare will continue through the weekend.

I did hear a promo (yesterday?) inferring that this ugly chapter in oldies classic hits
radio will "soon be coming to a close...until next year" (or words to that effect).

Of course, by next November (or Halloween, Columbus Day, Labor Day, whatever)
will there be any live airstaff left to even make listening to KOOL worthwhile?

They could be following in the footsteps of other CBS Christmas stations in other markets that are playing Xmas tunes through the "12 Days of Christmas" thus to conclude on January 6.

Go to Fry's or Best Buy and buy an HD radio. I've been listening to the HD channel for a long time. I've got 2 HD radios at the house and one for my car..

Which will happen first?: KOOL resumes airplay of Brown Eyed Girl or a light rail fatality?

do you remember when we used to sing....clang, clang, clang went the trolley!

My god, one of the only reasons I look forward to Xmas is for it to be over and all the crappy songs to go away again.

Stop the madness, Christmas music sucks!

(BTW, so does Light Fail, a billion dollars for something slower than a bus, restricted to one track and goes where no one lives)

To Legend City: Off board subject with light rail isn't it? The trolleys make point-to-point in less time than buses for the same route. You might want to visit the rail line. There are two tracks. Keeps them upright better than one. :D LOL

11 thousand bucks a foot for 70+ year old technology.

Would have been cheaper to buy everyone a car.

And yes, Xmas music sucks, Fry's Electronics was still playing it today.

I thought I heard an announcer say this.

Liner track just now from NFVG:

"...Monday, the Valley's greatest hits return."

Whether that means midnight, 1am, 5am, or some other time,
it can't be soon enough.

Thought I would toss out this question:

Do you think Kool will ever go only seventies and eighties and abandon the sixties or earlier?

Nurse Jeff and I rode Skip's Folley...er, Trolley late Sunday afternoon from Park Central to 24th St & Washington. Yuck...more crowded than a dollar store on Saturday afternoon; more street people with multiple piercings than you'd find at the downtown Y; the predominant use of non-english as the official mass transit language; overpriced lofts for sale with views of Starbucks everywhere, and stops at every red light and trolley stop. It took 45 minutes to go approximately four miles. A rickshaw could have made the trip faster! Fortunately there were free CNG shuttle buses to use for the return trip, otherwise we'd be out well past our curfew!

But hey, it did beat hearing Brown Eyed Girl for the 24,857th time!

I think KOOL will follow the nationwide change in the Oldies format by slowing migrating out of the 50's and early 60's.

Doc,

Were they playing Edgar Winter's Free Ride on the sound system,
or did they pipe in the KOOL Christmas eternity? ;)

From how you describe the freeloading--er, free riding--clientel, can we
expect some of the train cars to be trashed and/or graffiti-ized by the
"last train to Chris-Town" on Wednesday night?

When you K-Lite railed down 1st Avenue, I suppose you did the "Jed
Clampett points out the landmark" to Jeth--er, Jeff--routine when you
passed the back side of 840 North Central.

They did that some time ago. Anything pre-64 is record-a non grata.

Right now, I am conflicted. It always drove me crazy that holiday tunes ceased to exist at some point on Christmas day when the holiday season is actually supposed to run to Jan 6. So I'm real happy to hear the (all too limited) Christmas playlist still in use. On the other hand, it's very hard to listen to a station with no air talent. If you want to do oldies right, you need jocks and jingles (and news, but that's an entirely different discussion).

I'm sure John Michaels would second your emotion re news.

@#$% CBS bean counters.
