Do you realize the station has not even been around for six months and it seems most of you all on this board has killed the station off. I have been listening for the last several days I have heard some songs that I have not heard in a long time and some songs that should have been played when 96.9 was oldies but Cox was the one to make the playlist only 600-800 songs. Elvis seems to be getting some playtime now. Maybe Briggs and the others have done some major researching about songs from the 60's and 70's and they seem to be doing something right now.

Also if they are waiting out non-compete for jocks like Tom Murphy and Doc Brock would the non-compete go expire on Saturday since it will have been six months come June 25. What I am saying is that the old jocks were fired on Christmas night when the flip happened. It only seems that way. I would expect a full jocked KOOL FM starting next Monday. Also if they were not going to hire a jock for the 7pm-midnight shift on weeknights I think they would be using Tom Kents Hall of Fame Coast to Coast, right?

You get one chance to make a great first impression- they've blown it.
Can they survive? Of course. I'd rather succeed than survive.

Go look through all my threads, not just the ones that are reasonably pessimistic about Kool 100.7. I call 'em like I see them-- I am happy to share kudos and don't hesitate to point out inaccurate statements and outrageous claims (and, besides, I am one of many who is very disappointed about Renda's showing so far with Kool).

If you have the guts to call me a has-been, send me a little note at my Email address and I can explain how you just embarrassed yourself.

Re: KOOL FM Negative Comments

Comments about Kool are understandable, the station is disappointing for market 49, and it is that simple! I've worked at stations like this before in markets 99 + and they never really dominate. Weekends and evenings run jockless or voice tracked, drives are live and they do their best to survive.

It may make some sense for Tony Renda to wait 6 months for none competes to expire. Arrow was dead in the water anyway so what’s another 6 months, they’ll just start over with jocks.
Renda changed Froggy to Gator after a 4 week start up, but kept the format the same? It’s just how they do things. So we will all wait for July when Kool is cleansed and sheds the mom and pop stink that smells so bad.

KOOL Comments

I don't disagree that they're waiting for non-competes to run out. But they're wasting and losing valuable time to get while the gettin's hot. When Cox dumped Oldies, Renda had THE perfect opportunity to be a hero in Jax-- yes, they put the format back on and, as only "OK" as 96.9 had become, this version pales in comparison.

They may do things this way in Oklahoma but they're getting hammered in the ratings and by the critics. Excuses are fine and may make them feel good for five minutes,, but the great Oldies listeners in the Jacksonville market do deserve better. They'd better have a whole truckload of Lysol to get rid of that "stink" you so accurately referred to.

600-800? Um, no...try about 420. Perhaps I'll tell you all in a few weeks how I know that.

That would be surprising...

Nope, Tom and Doc were let go Monday the 27th. I don't know what their actual "sever" dates were.

That might happen...we shall see.

I doubt it, but who knows? Tom Kent plays some seriously "on the edge of not being oldies" songs on his show. My guess is that they'll either go jockless or voice-track the shift. It's cheaper, and you get to run all your own commercials instead of having to run the network's.

All mysteries will probably be solved by mid-July. :)

KOOL

the only opinions that really count are the Arbitron votes- and so far,
Kool 100.7 has registered whopping shares ranging from 1.1 to 2.1 in the monthlies, a far cry from the 6 and 8 share the last 2 months of Oldies at 96.9
(the old station was in the Top 5, the new station at #16 25-54).

A few listeners in your small circle may be talking but it appears they may be the only ones.

Re: KOOL Comments

I'm sure a few listeners enjoy Kool. But the only thing that matters is ratings, because radio is all about money! Don't be fooled by comments, if the station can't manage more than a 1.4 share, they should just hang it up and go home. Kool has a signal problem in Jacksonville and may never be a ratings killer.
I know they've applied for an upgrade but that could take years.

Maybe Renda has chosen to run the station leaner with fewer jocks. Voice tracking also makes the most sense because you maintain control over inventory
while keeping overhead low. And the average listener cannot tell if it's live or voice tracked.

KOOL #s

so far, their months as Kool are 2.1 and 1.1 (25-54 adults). May numbers will be out in another week or so.

In a market like Jacksonville, it's rank that counts. Right now they're at #16
25-54. Cox's 96.9 was ALWAYS top 10, usually Top 5. That will be the measuring stick.

The exact demographics Oldies radio is scared of these days?
Listen to what Oldiescat is saying, he knows this stuff.
This station has to improve now or it's in for a miserable
ride.
