Makes sense from a Sacred Sales Demos standpoint. The '90s was 20-25 years ago.
Too bad there was so little good music in that decade to make it worth listening to. Now, get off my lawn!
Actually they have been playing the 90s for a while, I'm certain this was already discussed on another thread. However they aren't playing the 90s stuff you would have heard on a CHR like Y95 or even Power92 (and no I don't mean the rap stuff). They are playing the really vanilla stuff you heard on AC stations. Doesn't really make any sense since they go pretty rhythmic with the 80s cuts (Pebbles, Bobby Brown, Paula Abdul, Milli Vanilli). You would think they could easily throw in C&C, Black Box, CeCe Peniston (ya know like 90s radio did) but somehow they think Sheryl Crow and Alanis were more popular.
Side note, they also started saying "The New 94.5" but it sounds like not much has changed except some really bad 80s ballads being rotated, and soundtrack themes played more often. Also they let their jocks just ramble on and on to the point where I end up changing it

90s had some great music! I'm excited radio stations are finally understanding they need to play them.
It depends on how old you are. If you grew up on '90s music, that's what you'll prefer even after it becomes geezer-music in another decade or so.
Many people start listening to popular music in elementary school (when they got their first radio... or, now, smartphone), and lose interest when they get into their 30s. In my case, I turned 30 in 1985, so my "range" for rock is roughly the early '60s to the mid '80s -- '70s disco and '80s MTV-friendly synthesized junk excepted.
All the more reason to skip "alt" 93.3 since -- no exaggeration -- I routinely one new song for every five or six moldy-oldie's 90's they play. (I would gladly stand corrected if that observation is in any way inaccurate.) Meanwhile, both the syndicated and local material on KWSS-LP is far more representative of what "alt" format *should* be. Glad I kept 94.5 on the pre-set and deleted 93.3 -- the latter of which continues to be an embarrassment. I would bet money we'll inevitably hear Green Day's "Longview" on 100.7 as well as (now) both 93.3 and 94.5, if they haven't already added it.

Oh, there was plenty of good music. But none of it ever got played on commercial radio (except for maybe on pre-sports KUKQ).
I'm definitely happy to hear 90's on KOOL. I'd be much happier if KDKB would play 2017.
But commercial hit radio is what we're talking about.

Our demo has no money, but the Nurse and I listen to 94~Five HD~Too, as well as 93~Three HD~Too for Oldies.
You're right. I should have been more specific. My presets are: 92.7 (or 93.3 HD2 if in correct vehicle), 94.5 HD2 then 100.7.
So, when did you put an HD radio in the Gremmie?
Just because we drive the P.O.S. model Gremlin, doesn't mean we're stuck with Ancient Modulation only! HD~Too is darned close to interesting...especially what TMISU are running on 92~Three HD~Too. YIKES!
KOOL-FM has been off my presets for awhile now too since they dropped 50's and 60's oldies (and I would be in a popular demographic at age 31). Funny how the first KOOL station in the country has dropped the oldies from their rotation while other KOOL stations across the country keep playing the hits of the 60's (KOOL 102.3 Las Vegas comes to mind). But at least we have KAZG 1440 AM / KDKB 93.3 FM HD-2 / K224CJ 92.7 FM for true oldies and, for listeners in the East Valley, 97.3 KIKO-FM. It's better than nothing (like San Diego, LA, etc...)
But is the demo that costs the most in terms of "closing" a sale. Often to the point that there is no profit.
It appears that the KKHH Houston format (as of late last year) looks relatively similar to what KOOL is doing.
