Kool imaging

I just heard the best "listener testimonial" of all time on Kool 100.7:

"Your station is on in our reception area."

It doesn't get more true than that.

I see they've also reverted back to the old, heavier Arrow 100.7 voice for some reason (or if it's the same guy, he's not as pleasant). Now I would agree with a previous poster that Charlie Van Dyke doesn't elicit feelings of "good times," but you'd think they would go with a somewhat more lively voice.

Until I just read this post I couldn't imagine it being worse than it was this morning. On my way to Carolina today I heard Pappa was a Rolling Stone IN MORNING DRIVE, all 8 minutes of it. I guess the Arf had to go and couldn't find a copy of Inna Godda Divida BABY! Thank God he didn't try to talk up the intro, but for an AOR guy, NO WAY DUDE!!!!

By the way I haven't heard from my old friends Martha Stewart and NomALICE(obviously not Cooper because he's a Republican)AtAll in a while. You ladies or Gentlemen can contact me personally via E-mail. I finally figured out how to do a profile here!

The Soup with the scoop!

Well, since you haven't bothered to make any of your "classic" comments, I haven't really had much to add to these discussions. Nothing in particular has stricken my fancy.

I really don't want someone like you to have my e-mail address, because I'd prefer to stay anonymous for the time being. I don't trust that you'd respect the anonymity, especially considering our "history", and your complete left turn into attacking me because my political beliefs don't match yours (and I defend mine more solidly). Considering how cordially our relationship on here began (go back and read them), it's sad that your right-wing ideology has infected your ability to politely deal with another human being. Is it surprising? Nope. This has happened to me all over the place, and often from fundamentalist thinkers such as you, Superjax. That's a small "f", by the way, and not a reference to the "Fundamentalist" version you find in many sects of Christianity. I hope it makes you feel good to try and weave that into every post where you reference me. It sure does nothing for me except make me think less of you every time.

Back on topic, I think the Kool imaging is lame...but then again, I'm tired of most radio imaging these days. It's just so, well, average. Everyone does the same crap - it's similar to everyone having a similar-sounding jingle package years ago. It just sounds the same. Some imaging is written better, some is produced better, but everyone uses the non-musical blips and zots, and puts EQ and filter effects on the voice guys (and gals), the occasional movie or TV clip, and the same overly percussive beds. I don't know, I think a little more imagination and creativity would serve as ear candy for me. I enjoyed all the musical silliness that Planet had on, with the style parodies of many of their artists. A bit too long, but entertaining and refreshing compared to the status quo.

Have a nice day, and God Bless!

> KOOL sounds like a badly produced small market station. They've been
KOOL for a few months and there is still dead spots. Does anyone working there even give a damn. The music is all over the place and there's no focus. The only thing Renda has going for them is the website. There was atleast alittle thought put into that. There's no new image voice either. It's the same guy that's been on KOOL since day one. He shows no emotion and no passion. Is there some changes coming soon? Let's hope so.

I am starting to wonder if people on this board are all washed up jocks with serious anger managemnt problems.Everybody says how they would fix the problems with WKQL but has anybody appleid for a job there. I imagine they are looking for good jocks

I really had not noticed any glaring "musical errors" up to today, when I heard "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes"--yes, the album version--and "Love The One You're With" in the same set.

Note that I am fairly tolerable of genre wrecks since it's hard to pair "Disco Inferno" with anything else on earth, you know? But hearing the same artist in the same set should be avoidable.

Of course, I'm sure Eagle has played "Dirty Laundry," "Life's Been Good," "Smuggler's Blues," and "The Long Run" within an hour or two, so I won't be TOO critical! haha

One more thing...I just heard Dixie Jones doing a tag for a Johnny Carino's spot. I've forgotten what a good voice she has.

Kool programming

this may seem a goofy question, but does KOOL still not have a PD?
(or maybe a better way to put it would be "a qualified PD"?).

It seems to me that one of Oldies' problems is trying to find a fresh approach within a format and music that inherently isn't fresh. It is hard to be original and cutting edge when your playlist is 100% history. That may explain the reaches that they have been taking over the air lately. New releases to the oldies station? hmmmmmmmmmmm.......

KOOL is just pitiful. The person who is the PD must have
mad cow disease.

I think I've mentioned this before, but for those of you just joining us, the PD is Briggs Bickley. He was also PD of Arrow 100.7.

Briggs started in morning drive from day one of Arrow, then after a few years moved to afternoon drive. For a time when Arrow flew without a midday jock, he also hosted a noon request hour in addition to PM drive. Then when Rick Baron joined the lineup, Briggs moved to middays for a few months, followed by a swap with Baron.

Prior to Arrow, Briggs worked at the TraffiCenter as "Briggs W. Bickley, Sr." doing traffic for Cool 96.9, and also worked for a local PR/marketing agency. In 2002 he became the first traffic reporter for WJXT's new Morning Show (the first few days as "Captain Kyle"), staying for about a year.

Briggs' main passion--other than an unstated love for Boston (judging from its rotation), and a stated (by a fill-in during a request hour) hatred of ELO--is riding motorcycles. One afternoon while broadcasting from the Clark Road studio, he deviated from his usual spiel to complain about a stray animal urinating on his bike downstairs.

So what does ANY of this have to do with oldies? Nothing, but let's hope Briggs likes 'em.

No, what you're hearing on this board is a group of people with high expectations.
Actually, minimum expectation would be to have a Jacksonville capable sounding
Oldies station, which Renda has not put on (yet). WKQL (Cox version) was decent
but this cheap imitation is really dissappointing.

If you work for them we're sorry your feelings are hurt-- we don't blame the
employees but the company had better step up and get this station on-par with the rest of the market. It ain't.

(and, BTW, the word is spelled "cool")

Re: Kool

The people who work for Renda are only as good as the support provided by corporate. Seems from the start it's been a big joke!

Did Renda do a better job with Arrow?

> Has Renda made mistakes. YES Hopefully they fill fix it. Unfortunately Tony Renda puts to much emphasis on his consultant. He might be a great research guy but a lousy programmer. From what I hear the station is getting some positive feedback from listeners. Hopefully they eill get their s*** together soon.
