Checked the ratings today? Since Todd "I don't have a clue" Wallace was given the boot and Tom Peake took off the 70s that an oldie listener would immeadiately turn off, KOOL is back to where it should be. 12 plus leading the pack by a full point.

Didn't Todd leave in the last week or so of May? The book was more than 2/3 over when he left, and there was no way any changes due to his absence would be felt in 3 to 4 weeks that remained in the book. for good or bad, this was Wallace's book.

Also note that KOOL was definitely not #1 in 25-54.

Yeah, but the train was forcibly put back on track before Wallace left.

When they realized that the new programming wasnt working, changes were made- then Wallace let go. Peak did turn things around.

What is KOOL's current ranking in 25-54?

KOOL ranks #3 25-54. That's very good. KOOL is proof that oldies can still do well 25-54 if programmed correctly.

Re: KOOL reality check

Either you don't understand how Arbitron works or you
simply dislike Todd. As someone already mentioned the
ratings were three quarters over when he left. I you
factor in how consumers utilize radio, it would be nearly
impossible for an upsurge in share in that time frame.
I will say this Todd Wallace should not program News
Talk, he is not a N/T programmer.

I think 3rd.

Not sure how a post from 2005 resurfaced, but I can tell you 4 years later, the 70's are now the majority of their playlist. Most of the whiners here dislike that, but I find it refreshing. Guess I moved into their demo, and the critics are not their target anymore!

I agree, I thought the 70s stuff was a nice addition. I didn't like the KSLX 80s numbers, and I LIKE KSLX, just not on KOOL.

The reverse is true as well. Early Beatles and "Brown Eyed Girl" have their (overplayed) place on KOOL, but not on KSLX.

As long as we're kicking KOOL's butt while they're down...actually this
is sort of the opposite. At 2:59 pm today KOOL played James Brown,
and--shocker!--it was not the one song they overplay, but rather
Papa's Got A Brand New Bag. Tentative congrats to KOOL for this
wading into uncharted waters! ;)

BTW, JB was followed by Brandy, which as we now know (based on
a post on the El Lay board) is not one of the Old Gringo's fave tunes.
Around Phoenix of course, it was a local police blotter/media joke a
few years ago--"as it turned out, Brandy wasn't such a fine girl." ;D

Brandy, you're not a fine girl
but a good pole dancer you'd be
Yeah your tongue could kill a windshield peddler
And make him think of anything but Awatukee!

...you mean that media joke?

If KOOL wants to trash the sixties, might as well replace the Box Tops with Joe Cocker's version of The Letter!

Fireman, I don't understand what you and Doc have against Motown!

But the Nurse and I like Motown and Northern Soul....just not played on KSLX (woosh-woosh) 100 point Seven!

Hearing Wilson Pickett on K-Slacks (which we do) would be like hearing
Led Zeppelin on KOOL (which is rare, if ever).

Hopefully it never gets to this: "...next up on 100-point-seven, some
classic rock from 1973 with the DeFranco Family."

Dunno about the Doc but you could count the number of Motown singles I like on the fingers of one hand (and have fingers left over). Don't like opera neither....and for the same reason. Hurts my ears.

OH! Perish the thought!
