Radio Free Phoenix invites you to join our favorite Radio-Info poster, KOOL Listener Lauren, aka Lauren Polanski, this weekend on Radio Freedom, the guest DJ Show.

Lauren will entertain you with her 15 favorite songs this Saturday at 5pm and again, Sunday, at 3pm at RadioFreePhoenix.com

For pictures of Lauren at the RadioFreePhoenix company picnic with the RFP gang (including Jerry Riopelle and Sweet Naomi:), and for other updates including specialty shows and concerts, see you on Facebook!

I was going to do it, but RFP has a terrible music clause.

Just because I wanted to play "Playground in your mind", "Seasons in the Sun", "I am Woman", "The Night Chicago Died", "Convoy, "Billy (Don't be a Hero), "Run, Joey Run", "Things get a little easier (once you understand) "Having my baby", "Feelings", and "Muskrat Love"

In fact, Andy and Liz are both armed, and will shoot.

;D

My name is Michael, I got a nickle....

Ok, if I can just figure out how to listen on my iPhone (without paying big bucks for an internet radio application), life will be good. :D

Good luck, KLL. Will it be live, or did you already tape the show for "live" playback?

Will you be playing Brown Eyed Girl? Cause, that would be so Kool. ;D

I hope not. Besides, isn't that one of RFP's banned songs? I think Legend
forgot to include it on his list.

Maybe Lauren will revisit "a KOOL Kristmas"...oh wait, one plays 15 songs on
Radio Freedom, not just two. ;)

Nevertheless, we're all looking forward to the show on Saturday at 8 Eastern/
5 Pacific and Sunday at 6 Eastern/3 Pacific.

Break a cart machine, KLL! (Radio geek version of the theatrical "break a leg.")

Closed circuit for Liz: is there a link to the pics?

But will Nurse Jeff and I get to hear the 15th song before the Gumpdusky lamptimer pulls the plug on KLL?

Regarding listening to RadioFreePhoenix on an iPhone, I recently received this message on Facebook from Phoenix writer Jimmy Magahern:

Liz:
I found a way to listen to RFP on an iPhone. There's an app called "Tuner" (available through iTunes) where you can put in the URL of the stream (http://streams.swcast.net/launch.cgi/teagarden/hi-band.pls/) and viola! Radio Free Phoenix in your pocket! Very cool. Probably can do it with other cell phones, too, but the iPhone makes it easy.

You can get about 6 hours of radio streaming, from what I understand - enough for your commute x 2! I found another app, Wunder Radio, that even makes it easier. Search for Phoenix, and RFP comes up. You can instantly play the stream, and there's even a link to the RFP web page.
The station is definitely geared for the future!

Program Director Andy Olson says pictures of the RFP company picnic should be up on RadioFreePhoenix.com, soon.

Needless to say, Legend City kept Jerry Riopelle highly amused ;D

LC,

I played all them last night EXCEPT Run Joey Run and Feelings.

WOAH WOAH WOAH!!!

Thank you, everyone!

Yes, I hope some of you can tune-in to witness my very first time DJing, EVER! Constructive criticism encouraged. Yelling at myself... that'd likely be me. I'm a perfectionist, so I'm definitely nervous about this. Not to mention, the internet radio style seems so awkwardly different than terrestrial radio, to me...

Not all is oldies, nor my favorite songs. I selected 15 songs in the name of "Radio Freedom" and just that-- freedom. Many great songs you don't hear anymore from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and even one from '01!

Ok to be a little nervous, but when you open the mike, pretend that your friend is sitting across from you and you're telling them what song you just played. Be conversational and have fun! Be yourself and you'll have a great time!

What Evan said. And I'll just add that picturing your friend in their underwear might take a bit of the stage fright off. We'll understand if you giggle a lot! ;D

In the long term, especially if you plan on making a career out of radio [in whatever form it survives], consider putting together an air check of your favorite DJ's. Listen to the tapes and study what makes these DJ's good. Practice in your car or whenever/wherever you have music and free time.

In the words of my first station manager, make it sound like any idiot could walk in off the street and do your job as a DJ. ;D

Above all else, have fun. I hope to be able to tune in and enjoy an entertaining hour of music and conversation.

KLL is one of the brightest radio minds ANYWHERE ... and I have every confidence she'll do well this weekend. She has a lot of great mentors, like Liz and others ... and I bet KOOL-FM would be proud to have her.

This means so much to Lauren and she's as neat a person you could ever want to know ... and I have for nearly a couple of years.

KLL ... just be YOU. That's all you have to do. You're a natural.

Best from your friends on the Central Coast of California - Joe, Chessie & Siammie

Sorry for the double post ... but

KOOL Listener Lauren about NAILED IT on Radio Free Phoenix today.

A refreshingly bright eclectic mix of familiar hits ... nice DJ patter ... great smile and "empathy" for the listener (that, alone, was refreshing) and a nice voice.

Liz was great, as well ... and had some really nice things to say about Lauren, which were sincere and, obviously, a source of pride for KLL.

There is hope for radio ... both in programming (and she went from Paul Revere, the Moody Blues, to Sam the Sham and Nick Lowe in an hour ... and made it work,) and in non-reader card, but short, concise "jock talk" that makes sense.

It that's the first time she's been on the air ... and around the world in 128k stereo streaming at that ... it was the best experience she could get. Thanks to Liz, again, for being there, too ...

Lauren ... you kicked it! Great job!

Thanks to the board for their support.

I had a chance to tune into the program. Great job Lauren! Oaktree has it totally correct.

Your music segues and song selection show that you have an ear for the music. Something that most DJs don't seem to have these days :(

From one similar young person to another, keep it up Lauren!

As Casey Kasem once said, "Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars!"

Dang...I screwed up the time-zone difference and missed the show. (And I really shouldn't have any excuse; with in-laws in Indiana, I used to be accustomed to the whole "same time in the winter, an hour earlier in the summer" dance between areas that observe DST and ones that don't!)

Anybody have an mp3 of the show they could fling my way?? :)

Yes I do. Just got done recording the Sunday afternoon version.

My copy runs about 121MB (mp3 320kBps although I think the actual netcast was 128) so I'm thinkin' burning to a CD would be the best method. Shoot me your mailing address and I'll get it to you.

The easiest way to remember about Arizona's time (except on the Navajo reservation) is we're PDT summer and MST winter.
