Kool Radio phasing out the word "Oldies"

It seems to me over the past week or two, Kool Radio is phasing out the word "Oldies." Occasionally you will still here a "Kool Oldies" liner and of course their joke of a website is still koololdiesradio.net but now two of the personalities - Mike Micellii and Leon Strong are now IDing the stations as "Kool Radio" and "Kool Radio, the greatest hits of the 60s, 70s, and 80s." Only Michael Maze is still referring to the station as "Kool Oldies." Oh well. He's the only decent "local" personality that station has.

Marc, if what you're hearing is correct, shouldn't the PD & mgmt. make sure the use of "Kool Oldies" be consistently used? What is your opinion of using or not using the moniker "Oldies?" Doesn't the station want to attract listeners to the fact that they are filling the void of the now defunct Oldies 102.9 'DRC-FM? IMHO, I do miss Lisa Sinclair.

More likely they're thinking of ditching '60s and greatly reducing '70s and going after listeners who want a more pop- and rhythmic-friendly version of the musical timeframe WHCN is playing.

But I would agree with the comment that they need to settle on a consistent brand if they want it to have any impact. I see this a lot with small stations. They have several different positioners or brands, and that's not a good idea. Whatever name they choose, pick one and stick with it.

The moniker is now "Kool990AM & 96.1FM"

They've been using that one. And in Springfield Kool 1270AM & 100.1FM. And in Westerly Kool 1180AM & 104.3 FM

"Kool Radio, Classic Hits of the 60s, 70s, and 80s."

Just wish they would fix that damn hum! It's so annoying. And because they switched the stream from Westerly to Southington last year the hum is on the stream too. Friday I thought for sure they were working on fixing the hum. They were still running Oldies music, but it wasn't from Kool Radio. They were messing around with some things on Friday. The Volume Levels were all over the place. Sometimes I had the station cranked up and I could barely hear it. And for a while the vocals couldn't be heard very well. Anyway when they were done messing around with things they forgot to switch back to Kool Radio and they ran a dead carrier with the annoying hum for like an hour before Kool Radio came back on.
