KOOL SOLID #1...ANYONE SURPRISED?

Damn shame those great DJ's can't play their own music selections.

Why is it a damn shame?

I mean, we're a long way from the days when DJs could play their own music selections, and as a long time fan (and sometimes employee) of great radio stations, I gotta say that the reason I listen to someone like Goddard isn't because of his music selections.

I listen to hear a great jock (which Goddard is) talk up a record...any record.

Steve is great. And just think how much more interesting he would be with all his knowledge about songs we've never heard or haven't heard in a very long time.

As long as a station is paying a human to select the songs it plays why not take advantage of one of the most knowledgeable humans in the biz?

I'd much rather be able to provide feedback to the on-air PD than the behind-the-scenes PD/consultant.

Just heard Steve Saturday morning on his syndicated weekly show, "The 70s," where he DOES pass along nuggets of knowledge on the songs. He still sneaks one in during his regular shift every now and again, too...

Yup....and I ask again....why can't regular weekday/evening dayparts have the same kind of presentation? Steve is a great talent but there are many more out there not being utilized yet radio continues to moan about listeners leaving. Gee.....I wonder why? Radio has forgotten what made it great (and not only the Oldies/Classic Hits genre).

I am surprised that the #1 station in Phoenix is running infomercials for long stretches during the night. Between 4 and 6 am last night (Sunday morning), there was nothing but infomercials broken up by commercial breaks.

These things are not good for the image of the station, and earlier risers are going to change the dial and NOT listen during time periods that are rated.

Oh, I guess they probably know that, but the income from that time slot is irresistible.

Look I don't want to be the guy that states the painfully obvious, but the time slot between 4 and 6 am on a Sunday isn't exactly prime time. I mean, there's a reason I spent my "paying dues" time loading up the reel to reel player with some random guy's "show" that played during the last hour of my Saturday-Sunday overnight shift.

How is that any different from the infomercial block on KOOL, apart from the fact that they don't have some flunky loading up the reel?
