KOOL VOLUME

for the past few weeks, i've been hearing drastic volume changes on kool radio. often after jock talk and sometimes in the middle of a song. watt up with this? is it manual pot-up or auto processing? ???

I've also heard inconsistent "gain riding" courtesy of the Audio Vault during voicetracking, which I'm led to believe is during middays 9-3 (Tom and Maria 9-12, Goddard 12-3) as well as overnights.

Previously I wasn't sure how much of Goddard's show was VTed as I never heard him say anything that was real, no foolin' live and topical, even during the late afternoon...that is until one day last week when he mentioned a traffic problem occurring in "real time" just after 3:00.

I don't think the KOOL jocks--even when live--are allowed to give the time of day anymore (or a real weather report with numbers) outside of weekday morning drive. Of course I invite PD Kris to reply here with any needed corrections.

And he can also reply to this: KOOL sounds pretty bad these days. I don't mean technically as they have a good-sounding signal, and I don't mean the music, since the expansion to a broader era (approx. 1964-1984) means we don't have to put up with Brown Eyed Girl as often ::)--but the station is for the most part, lifeless, even during most live dayparts, and more lifeless when voicetracked. I'll refrain from any further comments about the guy doing their syndicated evening show (he would like me to mention his name).

The one exception is Lee "master of the talkup" Bortel, who is live on weekends. With Lee, there's still excitement and a throwback to the KOOL we all knew and loved (well some of us--you know who you are :)).

Oldiesfan-- THANK YOU for saying what needs to be said, in a much nicer way than I can put it anymore.

This particular volume problem has been going on for several weeks now. Sometimes the difference in the sudden volume changes is ridiculous-- other times, it's more subtle. Sometimes, there's also a quick staticky sound between drastic volume changes. I do know that new AudioVault servers are being installed, and perhaps this issue will be going on for only a short while longer.

It's only one more of several major ongoing problems that need to be fixed. Some problems have lasted half a year now, and I often wonder how much the guy who should be listening the most, really ever listens AT ALL. There are so many technical, programming, and everything-in-between problems with KOOL now, it's just not funny.

i've not heard this problem with audio vault automation on other stations during vt'd hours.?

regarding the music rotation.. way too tight. i was using kool on my venue's p.a. for added security and would only hear the station for a total of ten minutes daily on average as i'd walk through the property. ..but during that limited tsl, i'd hear louis armstrong's 'wonderful world', frankie valli 'grease is the word' almost daily and many others in hot rotation which should be golds. it was driving me crazy. ..now i'm tuned-in to kcdx.

also, the night jock needs to get over himself.

i do like the music expansion. a lot of the classic rock / classic hit selections kind of surprise me. but more surprising, the few tunes in hot rotation with the new expanded playlist. ..go broader!

It's David Eduardo's fault.

(I just wanted to type that today)

What?!? How can you not like TK, TK, TK, Tom Kent at Night on KOOL?

He is entertaining, brings something fresh to radio and is different. Isn't that why we all love radio... for the personality?

We'll give TK props for making his show sound local. The Nurse and I are wondering if the Master Blogger will call KOOL out the same way he called out the Evil Joe Crummey on KFWhyEye a while back?

I think its been over a year since the master blogger actually blogged anything.

did kool expand their playlist to carry tk, so the show would not sound out of place?

I have it from a very reliable source that Steve Goddard gave us a nice
shout out in the 1:00 hour this afternoon on 94.5 KOOL-FM.

At least we know he reads the board! (I wonder if PD Kris still does?)

He may have been VTed, but over the intro of a certain Morrisong, he
mentioned that "our friends on Radio-Info say we don't play this song
enough." Gee thanks, Stevemeister. ;D

It's true...you can listen to the aircheck by downloading the .WAV file housed at the link below. (My apologies in advance for the mediocre sound quality.)
