KOOP Fire?

Someone told me that 91.7 in Austin, KOOP had a fire in the studio yesterday.

I was able to listen to someone on 91.7 during the day. It could have been KVRX if KOOP was down.

Does anyone know about this fire?<P ID="signature">______________

It's mentioned <a target="_blank" href=http://www.radio-info.com/mods/board?Post=625889&Board=sanantonio>in another thread below</a>.

KOOP update

There was extensive fire damage to the building that
houses KOOP's studios. However, KOOP did not suffer
badly. They did have some smoke damage. In the
meantime, KVRX - the student run radio station for
the University of Texas whose frequency is shared with
KOOP - will be broadcasting in the interim. KOOP's goal
is return to broadcasting on Wednesday, January 11, 2006
at 9a.m. This is contingent on having their power feeds
re-routed, getting Austin Energy approval to activate their
power, having their facility cleaned of soot to a level where
it is safe and recovering any damaged electronics. Those
actions are all dependent on their contractors, landlord and
insurance company coming through.

I understand that there are contingency plans forming with
KVRX, KUT and KLRU if they are unable to resume operations from
304 E. 5th street. There are reports that the landlord is
leaning towards not rebuilding. So, it looks like KOOP will be
looking for a new permanent home. I wonder if former KOOP Programmer/Board of Director and current Austin City Council Member -Raul Alvarez -
will assist in the station's recovery efforts.
