KOSI

KOSI has been around with the AC format since I believe the late 70's to early 80's. (I'm sure Safford would know if I am right about that or not.) KOSI is steadily in the top 5 in the Denver Arbitron ratings book after book and is one of Denver's oldest most respected and listened to stations.

I show the KOSI-FM calls as being on the frequency since 1968. Of course, they were beautiful music back then. I *believe* they switched to AC when they split KOSI 1430 off as KEZW, sometime around 1981.

Thanks for the info Safford. I thought I was right about it being somewhere near the late 70's/early 80's that KOSI went with the AC format from Beautiful music.
______________

I will be visiting an old friend in Denver this weekend. I'll give KOSI a quick listen to see how they sound.

your all wrong!
Kosi wasn;t an AC station back in the 70's or 80's.. I know this because when i moved to Colorado back in 1986 it was still an elevator music station.. playing what 107.9 used to play when it was KCOL.. They didn;t change formats until the early 90's where they did drop the beauitful music for the AC format.
So there ya go :)
______________

Nope, KOSI dropped the beautiful music and -FM and changed to just KOSI "KOSI 101" in 1981. KOSI has had the AC format way longer then the early 90's. It's been since the early 80's.

Let me ask you this question Dawn:

How long have you lived in Colorado basically?
I am really sure that they changed format around 1990, the same time when KCOL dropped their beauitful music for KIMN. When I moved here i remember listing to KOSI and they played beauitful music in 1986-1989. In fact I am right! ANd here is my proof as I searched the web for this:

By the end of the eighties D&D's beautiful music music station KOSI (101.1).

see it says BY the END of the 80's! So I was right KOSI was still playing beauitful msuic and this came from:

http://www.tangentsunset.com/radiodenver.htm

So there is your proof of the pudding.. I am sure KOsi proably did try something of the sort in the 70's but came back to their orginal format.
______________

Don't know if this helps or not, but a friend of mine says he has a 7" reel tape aircheck of K-O-S-I 101.1 FM with a January 1980 date stenciled on the label. The contents of the tape is all E-Z, "elevator" or "doctors'office" music, mostly instrumental covers of "popular" songs. That would mean KOSI diden't flip until sometime in the 80's...My friend said that the station that called themselves "beautiful music" was actually KLIR 100.3, which is now Mix. He has a '76 aircheck of this station also. Guess at one time the two stations were competitors for the same Geritol set.

KOSI went AC sometime in '92 or '93. When I first got to Fort Collins they were still playing elevator music. That was 1992. Ahhh D&D there's a blast from the past.

KOSI dropped the taped Shulke "Beautiful Music" format in late summer or early fall 1990. D&D broadcasting brought in Scott Taylor from Philadelphi to program the station as a live 24/7 soft rock station. Taylor continued in that postition through out the D&D ownership and much of the ownership of Tribune, Denver Radio. He was gone when Entercom took over the station. Certain, unnamed backbiters, probably caused the demise of Taylor. That and some indescretions that would be better left unsaid brought about his dismise. There is still some dirty laundry within the confines of KOSI, but the public doesn't know or even cares. Pretty much the nature of the business. Ovay!

Thats what I thought :) Thanks for conforming it! :)
Yeah and it was an interesting switch at the begining, the only station left after that was KCOL at 107.9 back then playing the same format. How times has changed everything.
______________
