KOSO-New Country 93.1 The Wolf

Well KOSO-93.1 has not changed formats, YET, but given their latest ratings are getting worse, I wouldn't be surprised if KOSO changes formats but to what? A friend of mine in Stockton, has told me that Kat Country 103 has sounded more stale lately, and I thought it is high time for another Country Music Station and since 93.1 has a much stronger signal, maybe if they find the right programmer, maybe after more than 15 years at or near the top, maybe it is time for a new challenger for Kat Country 103? The Wolf moniker is only a suggestion, but maybe it might not be that viable since San Francisco has a Wolf (Entercom's KBWF-95.7) and so does Sacramento (Entravision's KNTY-101.9), how about a COYOTE COUNTRY or BULL COUNTRY or BUZZARD COUNTRY. I think if any station would succeed against KAT COUNTRY 103, it would be a well programmed 93.1! Hey look at Merced, Mapleton's new KNAH-HANK 106.3 is challenging longtime Country Station, KUBB-96.3.

I don't know if B 93 will go country, since many challenges in the Valley to heritage Country stations haven't worked out very well.. Down in Fresno, Clear Channel's BIG Country 102.7 has yet to make a dent in KISS Country, and in Merced there doesn't appear to be a battle between KUBB and HANK as HANK not only has been beaten by KUBB in the latest Merced book but out of town Country stations KISS and KAT country.

It seems hard to tell though what will happen to KOSO. I have noticed a tweak in the music towards more alternative/rock leaning product as of the past few weeks. I also don't think that KOSO would go adult hits because KJSN Sunny 102 is the #1 station in Modesto with their 70's and 80's Cruisin'/Whatever weekends being a factor in their success.

You bring up a good question regarding KOSO's ratings, but first of all, while they have an excellent signal, it is definately not as good as KATM's. Both are 50KW, but KATM's stick is at about 400 meters high and KOSO's is about 150 or so.

My guess is that CC wouldn't want to leave vulnerable KJSN unflanked. There are not anymore country shares in the market than there are AC shares...and if you consider 95.1 being a Hot AC, there are many more AC shares than Country. Due to the nature of the product, most Modern AC's aren't making it. CC could do like they did with their Modern AC here in L.A. (Star 98.7) and slowly morph it into an Alternative or Active Rock station, which Modesto needs, or they should keep it AC and redirect programming and branding to something more like the "Fresh" or "My" AC format.

In addition, to protect such a strong asset, due to the superior signal, they should move cashcow KJSN to 93.1 and launch the new format on 102.3.

SUNNY 93.1 and ROCK 102.3

You maybe on to something Hunter? I didn't think of that? That would be an excellent choice for 93.1! And make 102.3 an Active Rock Station. The return of ROCK 102? Hmm. The signal is better than that of 96.7. It just might work. Now the question is, What Format would work for 96.7? Just leave it as La Preciosa as tobedawg wrote in the Modesto FA07 post? I think what Hunter has suggested would work for CC: "LIGHT ROCK, SUNNY 93" and "ROCK 102"!

Angie Good-New KOSO PD

Hey folks! KOSO has a new PD! See todays R&R online for the scoop!
And the new pd is a familiar face! Angie Good! Plus the return of CRUISE AND GOOD to mornings and THE MORNING BUZZ is out! Looks like Angie is returning B93 back to its Modern AC roots with some Alternative and AAA mixed in. It just might work!

Didn't B93 re direct their playlist, not too long ago, to be more of a Adult Top 40 station because the alternative angle wasn't working? And didn't they let go of Cruise N Good because of lack of ratings?

I am asking whole heartdly, I don't know... I DO know that CC made changes not all that long ago. Are they now saying they were wrong!
