From what I've heard Kim Amidon doesn't miss radio at all.
As for not listening to KOST it would seem that it doesn't hurt Clear Channel at all as they don't really care, but it does hurt the people that are still working there who now have to work twice as hard. Mike Sakellarides was quoted in an OC Register article after the firings that he still has friends at KOST suggesting that you continue to listen and support them. Hey they didn't ask for all of this to happen and I know from speaking to sources in Burbank that they miss those who have departed.
Now I must admit that the dynamic of the morning show has changed and they're trying to fix that. They were trying out someone this morning to see how she works with Mark. I'm guessing that we'll hear a few people trying out for the job and I think Stella Schwartz being on with Mark was to get people familiar with having another host with Mark.
The rest of the broadcast day really isn't that different. Midday's have changed with the loss of Sakellarides, but those filling the gap have been at the station for a long time and the station hasn't really changed it's sound all that much. Back in 2001 when they downsized Bryan Simmons it was a pretty big story as well as they let the weekenders go then too, but they all were re-hired in less than a year because AFTRA stepped in. Although it was kind of weird that Simmons went to KBIG for a while instead of KOST. It was different hearing him do a higher energy format and to talk a lot more. Sounded like he'd done that type of format somewhere in the past.
Does it suck the way CC dismantled the station? YES! Is it the fault of the PD or remaining staff? No, it wasn't their decision.
As for the statement made by angelbec that "KOST has had it's glory days and it's downhill from here. Sad - but true." Well I totally disagree and don't find that to be true at all. I will agree that it's sad though. Look, KOST is the lone mainstream AC in LA and is still in the top ten and does very well in it's demos. It's a decent biller too, so it's a little thinner and a little leaner but it would seem that those there continue to carry the torch. When you think of it you could say that the glory days for the medium itself may have passed.
Don't cry for Kim too much, I heard the payoff was good and that she's saved her dollars over the years. I would feel a lot worse for the others that lost their jobs on the air and behind the scenes as I'm guessing that they weren't paid as well. Nobody seems to be crying for them.
What's hard to believe is that you have morning and afternoon hosts that are on in the second largest radio market in the world who are on the air for 6 or more hours a day.
