KOST FM goes Christmas

I like their line about "It's not Christmas until it's a KOST Christmas"

However all of this brings me back to when it was Mark and Kim ... and when the playlist was better. I listened for about an hour this morning ... then went back to the WAVE...

From what I've heard, it's not KOST unless it's a Jhani Kaye KOST...

well hopefully they learn something from what Jhani was doing while at KOST, I have not compared the two yet, but im glad their are choices in LA for Christmas music, im just wondering if KKGO goes all-Christmas as well, it would be nice. ;D ;D

Frankly, it's too early for Christmas music.....these stations risk a drop in ratings and listeners at least until Thanksgiving weekend.

WAVE started this this season. Frankly in a PPM world when the entire month of December gets rated, it really doesn't make sense for these stations to flip before Thanksgiving. I can't imagine in Southern California anyone is ready for this yet.

Okay, so they went Christmas, no surprise there, but did they go before they wanted to originally? I bet the Wave gave them a jump start. They're touting 10 years of Holiday music on their website, but what I want to know is will KOST do Christmas Wish this year? They might, but it won't be the same without Brian Simmons. He even did Christmas Wish for KOST when he was at KBIG. Or could someone else in LA decide to do it? And since Simmons is available, could he pop up at another station to do it?

I listen this afternoon its not the same without Bryan. Its a first for Kari so maybe they will promote something with her during the midday

December this year is November 10th to December 9th. So stations doing Christmas music are likely placing their bets on a strong December book, since the Holiday book is pretty much ignored at the sales level.

And there is something else that has not been mentioned:

How many people do you know who have a big Christmas playlist on their smartphone or MP3 device?

I see the Christmas season as an opportunity for radio to do something that the bulk of listeners will not or can not do themselves.

If you want Holiday music, here you go! Your music is freeeeeeee (I'm paying Larry Miller royalties on that one).

The point is whether people want to hear Christmas music before Thanksgiving or in December (the December that exists to the listeners, not for the books). Many will not fire up their MP3's prior to Black Friday to hear "Silent Night" or "Santa Claus is Coming To Town". Most will play them one week before Christmas or Christmas Eve, including myself. Radio just extends the opportunity to hear these carols longer and into a period of time, that many consider..too early.

Look at the backlash against stores opening up at 10PM Thanksgiving or at midnight this year....people like tradition, not an inconvenience to ruin a nice, warm Thanksgiving dinner with family. Christmas music before Thanksgiving is not a tradition to many.

Whoa, just heard KOST Christmas Wish for this year and they're trying a new format for it. In my opinion, it's a fail. There's something missing, the actual wish. It starts with a phone call to the person who made a wish telling them that they won. But with this new way of doing it, why should you care, it goes straight to the payoff. Sounds like Mark Wallengren is doing them now. I like Mark, but the wish promotion this year just does not sound as good in years past. Okay, it's just bad, but I doubt anyone cares, especially at KOST. A fail.

Agreed - miss how Bryan Simmons did it and the whole lead up ... I am thankful that the station still does it ... but I miss the old format ...
