Kountry Kicks Ass in Dothan

The top two stations 12+ are WTVY & WDJR
with a combined 1/3 of the total market shares.
Dothan loves its country or all the other stations
have got it wrong.

Yes, congratulations to the hard working folks at 95.5 WTVY. They are #1 12+ for the second book in a row. Again, Pollard & K. C. are the top-rated morning show in Dothan. Big Mike, Dave and Elizabeth put up big numbers, as well.
Good job, y'all!

It's a full on country war!

Hats off to WTVY, they showed growth again. WDJR showed growth as well recovering from the last book by doubling there numbers and winning outside of morning drive.

If you look at the REAL numbers (everyone knows 12+ means nuttin)...overall WDJR won with adults 25-54, WTVY with 18-49. Either way, neither station spanked the other (but spanked everyone else) and it was very close! Split right down the middle.

Should make for an interesting fall book!

However, WTVY has been much more consistent for the last two years. WDJR has been up in spring and down in fall. If you look at a two-book average, WTVY wins. WDJR "doubled" from a lower than average book. Let's not forget, in Spring 2003 - WDJR was ahead more than 3-1 on WTVY 25-54.

True, WDJR came off one of the worst books they've had in 10 years. They've bounced back well. New jingles, imaging, voice-guy, music, morning show, afternoon and night show. With all the changes and to still come out very strong means they're doing something right.

Hopefully they can stay consistant.

Say what you will about WTVY or WDJR, what I see here is a market where both stations are doing a great job of giving their particular audiences what they want. Arbitron wobbles aside (and there have been some doozies the last couple of years), this battle has been great for the Country format in the Dothan market. It's true that WDJR was above WTVY 3-1 in Spring 03, and at times it has been even worse (or better if you work for WDJR), but WTVY has found a platform, and they've done a great job of growing an audience. If you look at books in this market and go back 5 books, you'll see that WDJR has overcome whatever problems they've experienced and their numbers are now pretty much normal for them. In the meantime, WTVY has found a new audience. And let's face it, to see Country dominate a market like this is a rarity these days. More evidence of an impending boom in the format? You be the judge. Both of these stations are to be commended for a job well done in the Spring. It'll be fun to see what happens in the future. Someone has to be number one, and someone has to be the "other country station." Now we get to find out who wants it more. Stay tuned...

Very well stated. They both have their audiences and niches...

Now, however, it's down to WDJR, WTVY, WKMX, and WOOF - and then "everyone else."
