KOUS Ch 4 Hardin/Billings

KHMT Fox-4 began as KOUS Ch 4 Hardin as an NBC affiliate for the Billings market in 1980. Their newscast News 4 with anchor Ed Connors ran for a year & a half from 1982-83 and it flopped. They only aired the 5:30 newscast but there was no local 10pm newscast right before The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. After 7 years, KOUS switched to ABC in 1987. If you lived in Billings without cable, KOUS had a difficult signal to pick up and Hardin is 48 miles from Billings. KOUS went dark in early 1993 forming a new ABC affiliate KSVI Ch 6 Billings and Ch 4 resumed as Fox-4 KHMT since 1995.
