It is very profitable for KOVR , but that was when the 10:00pm newscast was doing very well. From what I've heard, the 10:00pm newscast has faltered as of late. However, I doubt they'd bail on the early-prime after just one season of CBS ownership.
If the 10:00pm news on KOVR is ever cancelled in favor of an 11:00pm newscast, I would most certainly look to it moving over to KMAX, at least in an abbreviated 30-minute format.

News is cheap to produce and also brings in a lot of ad revenue. The early-prime has hurt CBS's primetime ratings in the past, but as others have said on these boards before, CBS must feel that whatever ad revenues are lost during primetime can be made up during the 10:00pm newscast. (Letterman has also traditionally not done well in the Sacramento market due to the fact that it's up against three local newscasts.)

Agreed. I expect the only change we'll see this fall on KOVR is the addition of Dr. Phil at 3:00pm and the 4:00pm newscast.
