KOVR CBS 13 - ANything up for the Fall?

Its been 2 and a half months since CBS took over and besides graphics I have seen no programming changes at all. I thought they would move things around in mid June. But they have not.

Some things I do know. Jane Pauley is being canceled nationwide. Also Family Feud must not do real well this day in age. I am wondering if anyone has an idea of what will happen with the station this Fall.

Some things I would like to see include but are not limited to bringing Guiding light back, moving prime time back to 8 PM and maybe a longer evening newscast. Plus drop Jerry Springer. Still no fall changes have been indicated yet so I still am hoping.

What seems wierd is Guiding Light not on a CBS O & O. This seems unprecedented for a Network O & O to preempt an afternoon soap as others have said. I did remember ABC O & O stations that were acquired as previous Cap Cities stations preempted some ABC non soap daytime stuff that was only being shown in about
60 % of the markets.

Also when Westinghouse merged with CBS the NBC Group W stations were running 3 and 4 hours of Saturday morning news and not clearing the entire NBC Teen schedule. But as soon as They (WBZ TV and KYW TV)affiliate with CBS they cleared the entire Saturday morning lineup...though they ran news 6-9 AM Saturday Mornings and began cartoons at 9 AM. They ran the other hour 7 AM Sunday mornings. KOVR seems quite unusual thus far.

It seems that CBS is going to allow the syndication deals that were inherited from Sinclair to run their course, at least for the time being. I'm also kind of curious whether KOVR will actually add "Guiding Light." Although it would be more or less unprecedented for a network O&O to pre-empt a network soap such as GL, it seems that if CBS wanted GL on in Sacramento, they would have aired it at some point on KMAX. If KOVR does add "Guiding Light," I think the show will air in the morning rather than in the afternoon. But who knows?

I also think it's kind of curious that CBS has not updated the KOVR website. The Sinclair site is still up with the old logo with maybe a link removed here and there. Given the delay in programming changes and also the delay in reworking the website, I would say they're probably going to do a major relaunch early this fall.

Mark, I think you're a little too obsessed with KOVR. If I do a search on those call letters, every thread about them has at least one post from you (if not three or four), and the vast majority of new threads about them, going back to when the sale was announced, were started by you.

I see you still fancy yourself a television programmer.

I'd guess, as have others, that syndication deals inherited by Viacom are preventing a lot of changes from happening as quickly as you feel they should. I also agree with another response in this thread: If Viacom had urgently wanted to clear GL in this market, they have had ample opportunity to put it on 31.

You're comparing apples and oranges, my friend. Different times, different markets.

I just wonder if Mark would actually watch Guiding Light.....doubt it.....he needs to send DirecTV a bogus address and pick up KPIX if it's that important, but for the life of me......

Infinity has done a major re-working of most of its stations' sites. KOVR probably came into the picture too late to be included. Thus, those changes would have to constitute a separate project.

As for early prime, I suspect it's just a matter of time before KOVR is brought into line.

And I'd have to agree with the sentiment that KOVR will likely get its major launch as a CBS O&O to coincide with the start of the fall TV season. It'll probably be similar to the effort KOVR made back in 1995 when it switched from ABC to CBS.

They're very busy right now doing a lot of things, from buying millions of dollars of equipment, to consolidating the KMAX/31 operations in the KOVR building and determining where both stations will be in the future.

There are also market rumblings that Bruno Cohen (new Viacom Sacramento TV GM) is going out of his way to get new high-profile talent.
