It's up, Viacom style:

<a target="_blank" href=http://www.cbs13.com/>http://www.cbs13.com/</a>

The old URL, kovr13.com, also redirects to the new site.

It is the same format as the other O and O stations. Check out wcbstv.com, cbs5.com. You'll see the same layout as cbs13.com. It is a nice web site.

Now if they can just de-Sinclair their programming KOVR would be a good station. And 2 hours of paid programming a day is unacceptable...even on the overnight for a network affiliate in a large market. Some weekends are also quite bad. They did give a good argument for early prime time...in pattern format would be nice...but their newscast at 10 does well...can see why they dont mess with that.

I spoke with one of the people in management and they were very helpful. They told me big programming changes are on the way in the next year and most of the Sinclair buys are expiring at that point. They said that they hope to eliminate most paid programs within a year. They also said eventually they will run the entire CBS schedule...the question is WHEN? and they could give no absolute timetable except after their prior programming investments expire which for competitive reasons they would not go in depth about.

In New Orleans CBS owned UPN 54 since 2001 and they did not add "The Early Show" until this past spring...over 2 years since it fell off WHNO. WWL TV there has not had CBS's morning show since 1988. Anyhow I am surprised so many affiliates run that. The Early Show does get very poor ratings...Even on KOVR.

Many O & O stations of CBS only run an hour of that show. Personally CBS should cancel the Early Show and just give the time back to their affiliates.

Mark, one reason that CBS continues to program a morning show, even with low ratings, is because "The Early Show" still makes a ton of money for the network. Plus, morning news is one of the few parts of the broadcast day experiencing growth in viewers, and CBS does not want to abandon this daypart. I'm also sure that the network does not want to be behind the curve if breaking news occurs of national importance, since the other networks would already have there news divisions operating and on the air.

All that being said, I agree with you that the affiliates would probably be better off programming the slot themselves. The national numbers for "The Early Show" are low, and I haven't heard anyone post of a market where the program does well.
