KOY BUILDING MINI PARK

i need help to restore mini park at the koy building, 840 n central, where central ave splits at roosevelt, the gateway into the downtown phoenix, currently occupied by cbs radio. it's looking mighty drab on that corner these days. lightrail construction was completed a year ago! let's go cbs! i'm thinking about a desert botanical garden type mini park & water feature, low maintenace and sponsorship / partnership should be easy and is essential to help revive downtown. and the tree out front looks thirsty ;)

I'll bet Gary Edens would be able to tell you what used to be there, after the original remodel in the 70's, when the building became one of the most prestigious in Phoenix broadcasting. Another good resource would be Barbara Maack at the House of Broadcasting Museum, as she worked at KOY for many years. It would be fitting to name the park after an historical broadcaster from KOY, like Steve Allen or maybe even Bill Heywood :)

i have a nice condo at central / roosevelt with a fantastic view of downtown phoenix. ..and one of the most prominent buildings of the skyline is historic koy studios; now cbs radio and looking run-down. mike was the last to paint the building in '93. you can still see an outline of the ol' call letters, where mounted on the building's facade. koy bought that corner lot, with gary as gm, to enhance downtown phoenix with a mini park. ..we need to keep that vision alive! i'll inquire cbs about a point person for the project and will connect 'em with developer / organizations looking for opportunities like this. the cost should be zero with volunteers, tree and plant donations. it'd be a great promotion for cbs radio phoenix, imo. show some phoenix pride cbs! thanks.

Does anyone remember that we buried a time capsule in that little island across from the building back in 86 or 87. We had a pix taken of all of us that worked there at the time. Boy that old building was beautiful and just felt like radio. I wonder what ever happened to the mascot kitty that used to hang out in the building.

John Baker has the capsule if I remember when KOY moved to CC. Not sure where it went after that.
