KOYM-LP is on the air (I think.)

Was driving along Beltway 8 between I-10 and 290 last night and found a strong Spanish language religious station clashing with a fairly strong KVST. I never got an ID, but I believe this is KOYM-LP, whose licensed transmitter site is around 2 1/2 miles east of the Beltway. I can't see what else it might be with such a strong signal. KOYM is owned by Fourth Angel Broadcasting Network, a Spanish language religious operator.

The KOYM signal was solid in spots where it dominated, but the KVST signal is also pretty good in that area. It was a basic FM capture effect dogfight between two strong signals. As we mentioned some months back on one of the other LPFM threads KOYM will have its coverage severely limited by KVST. Even co-channel KHGV, which is much farther south has much of its coverage area affected by K-Star.

The KOYM signal clash weakened as I crossed 290 and KVST has the frequency all to itself at my Cy-Fair location.

I'll have to see if KOYM puts in any sort of listenable signal along 290 or the West Loop during my commute Monday morning.

I thought I'd have had a shot at it, but a 12:35pm check produces KVST with a good signal. Nulling it, produces absolutely nothing. No KHGV, no KOYM. Given KOYM's location near Hedwig Village, I should at least catch glimpses of this newest LPFM from the 4-4.

Shouldn't I?

All I hear is some accordion playing polkas. And I hear some slow music in the background sounds like Christie and music but in English but can't understand a word they're saying because I could hear him once in a while.

On my second try today to listen to the station I hear jazz in the background and I hear country music as well. I did get to hear for like two seconds a song in Spanish saying I want to see another. Quiero ver otra but that's all I got to hear.

I'm on Cavalcade and Airline parked at Salon Garcia (paid advertising lol) jk.

Well I'm parked here and I could listen to Aggie 96 very clear.

I can confirm that the Spanish language religious station on 99.7 is indeed KOYM-LP. On my 290 commute home this evening the station was dominating the frequency between Antoine and Tidwell, and I heard the TOH ID. KOYM is running a network feed, but the local ID was automatically inserted over the network programming.

KOYM's range is severely limited by KVST. I'm guessing the usable signal radius of KOYM is two miles or less. Bad frequency choice; I wonder if they will seek a change as KCYB did (but to what?)

An earlier check while driving in the midtown area had no trace of KOYM; just the usual clash between KVST and KHGV.

It's dominant at Tidwell & Antoine, yet I can't catch a peep of it at Tidwell & N. Shepherd. All KVST over here as usual, but I wonder if KOYM will actually consider moving, knowing Ben Amato is taking KVST back to Huntsville in the near future. They're on the air, perhaps they feel they can hold out until the move has been completed. It will be a fairly good frequency for both KHGV & KOYM, once KVST bids adieu to Houston proper.

Just noticed they have programming on channel 15.4 as well .

Really? That means 3ABN en Español has been dropped from KVVV. The English language version was dropped from the .3 several weeks ago.

Wait what? Ok now I'm confused... I drove by Wirt Rd and Long Point Thursday and 99.7 was saying YOURE LISTENING TO 3 ABN RADIO and they had some church from the Dallas Fort Worth area preaching on the station.

Nope. I think you just straightened me out, Señor. I believe you actually confused me since I can't hear what's going out over KOYM from up here. 99-7 is rebroadcasting 3ABN's TV audio then. I got you. I checked 15.4 just now and 3ABN is still there. I was wondering what you were talking about, amigo.
