KPEZ and KHFI,,, I don't get it....

I thought KPEZ "The Beat" was expose to be hip hop. Now more and more they are top 40, and advertizing KHFI more and more. I remember back when Fred first said about KPEZ telling listeners to go to KHFI for more hit music. Are they planning on flipping KPEZ soon?

I don't get it either.

Just like in San Antonio we have too many boring top 40 outlets, no hip-hop or dance. Yes KBBT says hip hop, but they're too close to the others. Same with WiLD.

there's to many stations playing new music, kkmj, kamx, bob-fm, khfi, kpez, kase, kvet, kgsr. klbj, krox, and more . my ipod now has replaced austin radio with 60-80's and some 50's and 90's.

New music? Not real new, other markets play newer music long before Austin does. I wish clear channel would sell KPEZ and KVET, maybe another company would make them sound different. It's about like KVET and KASE sounding alike also.

BTW the beat in SA sounds 10 times better than Austin's The beat, I feel like I'm listening to KHFI when I'm on The beat in Austin.

Maybe it's because the programmer's probably the same person, plus the processing's close between the two and both speed up their songs.

When I listen to music I usually like it at normal speed like KBBT does.

They might as well change The beat in Austin to "KHFI number 2"

I guess because there is no comp around, if someone would launch a real hip hop station they might change.

Or fail, Hot 93 might come back perhaps? Or Hot 96.3?

96.3 would be useless.

That would really suck if Austin goes without a hip hop outlet all over again, even if KPEZ went from a rhythmic based "hip-hop/rnb" to "hip-hop/[pop] hits" as of recently. Not to mention with R-Dub's Slow Jams show getting dropped three weeks ago for no reason, that leaves Austin without a rhythmic based R&B program for the umpteenth time.

Seems like rhythmic radio here is cursed. While Hot 93.3 lasted for five years, The Beat went through five incarnations and two "hiatuses":
1) KQBT 104.3 (1998-2004)
2) KXBT 104.3 (2005-2007)
3) KXBT 104.9 (2007-2008)
4) KFMK 105.9 (2009-2010)
5) KPEZ 102.3 (2010-present)
Not to mention it went through four different owners before CC: American Radio, [...merged with] CBS/Infinity, Entercom and Liberman. That's a doggone shame.

I'm getting to the point to where I enjoy more non commercial radio around here when I'm not near internet radio, like K-Love, Air one, 100.1, I really quit listening to commercial radio, maybe KOKE every so often if I can get it.

I can't get 100.1 but can get KOKE. Same with Air One.
I settle for my Austin's Greatest Hits library, or my digital cable music choice channels.
I can burn it onto CD or tape it on cassette and take that along!

So what's next for kpez? A spanish format?

They did on KLOL in Houston before they sold it. Not sure about other markets.

Didn't think CC was into Spanish formats.

CC doesn't frequently air Spanish-language formats, though they have a few. They also have a Spanish-language network called "La Preciosa" that was syndicated to several different markets and has had a few non-CC stations air it.

Ok now the beat is "Hip hop and hit music" will someone please launch a REAL hip hop station on a full powered stick, NOT owned by clear channel, so the station will not sound the same like how all the 4 do.

I honestly don't know if the station admins read this board, if they do though I ask them to please start one up in SA too. Some of those top 40s that sound the same can just quit, maybe.
