KPFK-90.7 FM

Was listening to KPFK-90.7 FM on-line today and really liked it. Does it have any impact in LA?

Zero (or less), but every few years the staff/management/directors all revolt against each other, which makes for very entertaining news stories.

That's cause they're always trying to organize for the chaos. Or is it the other way around? whatever.

It would be interesting to see how much their donations have gone down in the bad economy. It's easy to be communist when you have lots of money...but then what happens?

KPFK has a huge listening base and the sigmal travels great here in San Diego now that the Mexican station that used to be at 90.7 moved. I enjoy KPFK a lot and wish we had a similar station here.

If by "listening base" you mean the stations covers a lot of people, that is true. KPFK, on paper, is the best FM facility in the LA market.

If you mean lots of the people it covers actually listen, that is not true. While 3.4 million people 12+ in LA and Orange counties listened to KIIS in an average of the last 3 books, less than 125,000 listened to KPFK. Adding the Inland Empire market increases this to just under 140,000 persons... based on diary data, adding the San Diego market puts in enough to get to around 150,000 persons out of about 15 million. That is barely 1% who cume the station, and the average share is around 0.1, or one tenth of a percent of listening.

If you can hear KPFK, why would you need a duplicate in SD? Localization? Do you think there would be enough financial support to sustain it?
