kpft approved from fcc to go to 100k watts

according to peetee this morning on his show said that in about 3 months they will boost there power from 26.5k watts to 100k, there having a special fund raiser for this to buy the equiment for the move up on power and for those not knowing who peetee is his cajun bandstand show is on from 6am to 9am saturdays, and here I was reading that they were not going to boost there power, will see how this goes.

Seems that they are upgrading.. they have a CP for 100kw. However... just my opinion, looks like it'd be a pointless upgrade... doesn't really give them too much more range, or cover any larger cities.

from what IRC...don't they similcast in College Station and Galveston? will this give them a bigger coverage area?<P ID="signature">______________

I'm not sure its worth the expense.

KPFT used to be 100kw from the current transmitter site. It was downgraded to 28kw in the late 90's. Not sure of the reason.

I don't see why they would need a fundraiser for the power increase, unless they got rid of the transmitter they were using during the 100kw days. Perhaps it is still there (or in use) but needs work before it can be ramped back up again.
