KPFT Remembers 1970 Transmitter Bombing

Today is the 40th anniversary of the day that two people from the Ku Klux Klan destroyed the transmitter of Pacifica-owned KPFT. According to a source, it is "the first, second and only station in the United States to have its transmitter blown up by terrorists."

For what it's worth, a story I heard from a former KPFT engineer...

While replacing the air conditioning at the transmitter, one of the workers asked if this was the station that was bombed. Engineer replied that yes, and it's said that the KKK did it. "We did not!" as the worker shows his Klan tattoo, before explaining that the Klan respected KPFT because it was the only station in Houston that would let them come on the air for an interview and felt like the station treated them fairly.
