KPHE-LD on the air

They are broadcasting on RF Channel 16, and currently simulcasting their analog on 44.1, with color bars on both 44.2 and 44.3 (more content in the future?). The signal is good relatively not too far from the transmitter site.

44.2 is now showing Spanish christian programming and 44.3 is now off the air.
44.3 is now showing the christian network 3ABN.

According to a brief email exchange I had with Ken Kwilosz, the GM at KPHE, there will eventually be four subchannels:

44.1 will continue to be the two networks, Multimedios and Telemax.
44.2 is Spanish-language Christian - they are airing programming from Red ADVenir.
44.3 is English-language Christian - they are airing programming from 3ABN, or Three Angels Broadcasting Network, along with programming from Hope Channel.
44.4 is to be Multicultural TV.

The Christian programming on both 44.2 and 44.3 are from the perspective of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 3ABN is privately owned, while Hope Channel and Red ADVenir are the official English- and Spanish-language television networks of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The "three angels" references in 3ABN and the network logo of Red ADVenir comes from Revelation 14:6-12 in the Bible.

The name (Ken Kwilosz) sounds vaguely familiar. Has he been in PHX TV
previously, and if so where?

Yes, he has. He was named GM of KPHE on March 1, 2005. Previously, he had been Integrated Media Sales Manager at KPNX 12, www.marketingymedios.com/marketingymedios/market_profile/article_display.jsp%3Fvnu_content_id%3D1000863026+%22Ken+Kwilosz%22&cd=17&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us]according to Marketing y Medios[/url], and a Phoenix Business Journal article says he was with KTVK for 15 years and apparently helped start the WB station - I assume they mean KASW 61.

After a few days, I have to say that KPHE-LD has the best reception of the three low-powered DTV's in Phoenix (and this is being between a full-powered analog - to be digital - station in Channel 15 and a full-powered digital in KPHO-DT). KAZT-CA comes in second (which did come in better on Thursday night when some of the full-powered analog and digital stations were off the air during the storm, which seems to make the claim of interference from adjacent KUTP-DT - which was still operating at the time - moot), followed far behind by K38IZ-D, which must be running their digital signal through their old analog 53 broadcast antenna. I would recommend them to replace their antenna when they shut down analog 53.
