KPHO 910 QUESTION

Actually, Ray Odom bought KPHO and turned it into KJJJ Country. The radio studios were moved to 631 n. 1st Avenue.
The talk format replaced KJJJ in 1985.

You actually have it backwards. KPHO 910 was talk in the 1970's. Pat McMahon was on 7 to 9 p.m. with a talk show geared toward young people, followed by Earl Baldwin 9 to 12 midnight. Ray Odom turned it into KJJJ in the 1970's. It then became KFYI and west back to talk in 1985.

You are correct. My problem is at that period of time I was usually working in that daypart and not able to keep track of it. Besides, I was usually listening to KTAR AM in the daytime, and KFI Los Angeles (at least while Dave Hull held down that evening slot) at night.

I think the only time I listened to KPHO was one night a thunderstorm came through Phoenix and sounded scarier than usual. I tuned into KPHO at Midnight and listened to a seemingly long stretch of beautiful music. At a quarter after the hour the on duty announcer told the listeners that he had just gotten off of the telephone with the Weather Bureau and then gave the details on the storm and how long it would be affecting the city.

Thanks for correcting me. (I hope that doesn't affect my credibility!)

Mike
