KPHO-TV News Set/Graphics

I had a feeling channel 5 had been using a temporary news set
recently...it appears they are revealing a new set and graphics
today on their 4:30pm sports show. Any confirmation should
come in their 5:00 news.

They must be doing a "soft opening" today in order to iron out
any kinks prior to Monday's 'casts, or actually before the 10:00
on Sunday, with Sunday night--especially late--now being the
"first team" on air on many stations.

There is one problem with the new (lower-right screen) bug as the
CBS eye looks a bit ragged--part of the edge of the eyeball is not
"trimmed" cleanly.

Confirmed. New set. The logo looks like it should have a moving shimmer to it or something, but it isn't moving.

Nevermind.

Someone else did after I posted this!

So are they adhering to the CBS mandate yet? I havent been in PHX for a couple of years...

It does look good.
I wish them well.

Just don't leave an image up long enough to burn a CBS5 image to the monitor screen.
Time will tell.

I dunno…I’m just not a big fan of their new logo. The blue background makes it take up too much room on the screen. Wouldn’t a transparent background have worked?

Also, I think the new logo looks kind of “cheap” compared to the old one, which seemed more dynamic.

It seems that they are trying to emphasize the “CBS” as much as the “5” now – whereas the “5” was the emphasis before. (And I think this is a good move) --

EDIT: It looks similar to the logo used by WBBM-TV (CBS 2) in Chicago...

If set design increased ratings then game shows would be the most popular shows on TV. Unfortunately, it is usually the professionalism of the talking heads and news content which make or break news shows. In these categories C(BS) (as well as other local news broadcasts) fail miserably.

From what I've heard (sorry, can't disclose my sources), this is their HD set and graphics. Unfortunately, the station is having a lot of troubles broadcasting their news in HD, so HD news won't come for now, and probably won't for the rest of the year, at worst.

Well, you Arizona oldtimers keep telling me that Kent Dana is just a little lower than God. If Kent can't solve the ratings issues at KPHO, then nobody can. I do agree that it would be nice to see a station that actually did a thoughtful version of the news. I believe that there is an opportunity to do something different -- maybe at 6:30pm.
