KPIX to start 7pm

CBS 5, KPIX starting a 7pm daily newscast. Is this needed??

Not in my opinion. I won't be watching. But I'm one of those people who would just as soon get their news from NPR on internet web sites. I don't get the reason for the proliferation of news on local TV, but I'm guessing it's economic. You pay the anchors to stay another half-hour, repeat all the video segments you just ran at 6:00, and maybe throw in a live remote if there is a late breaking story. This may cost less than paying for syndicated programming.

Well theres been talks that CBSN was trying to get the CBS O&O division to start local editions of CBSN similar to how WCBS-TV/WLNY were starting their edition of CBSN though for the O&O's. This 7pm Newscast that KPIX is doing might be a test to start CBSN San Francisco edition.

WCBS-TV was doing a 7pm Newscast to boost audiences over to CBSN New York edition though.
