I'm totally shocked to learn this!!!!

I just talked to Mr. Ed a month ago he said he was having a blast. I thought he was sounding great. Beats the shit out of what they have now in Mornings afternoons and especially nights!!! They deserve that 2.9 dumping all the good talent.

This is not good for John Cook as he has not done well for years as a PD. Can't put Smokey back in there (yaaaawn) I really don't see Cumulus doing the right thing down the road. Too bad because The Wolf still has incredible imaging and promotions. This is a perfect opportunity for KSCS to make there move but they sound so lame now who knows maybe The Twister and their peanut whistle might step up. NOT! :D

Notice when John Cook took over as PD the down hill slide was on?
Laugher is right, his PD skills are summed up in one word.."lousy".

From All About Country:
OM John Cook Exits Cumulus/Dallas Country KPLX/The Wolf
John Cook the OM of Cumulus/Dallas' Country KPLX/The Wolf and Classic Rock KDBN has left the building. In addition to being OM he was the PD of the Wolf. Now comes news that, long time APD, Smokey Rivers is now the interim PD.
Other changes, Ed Lambert will also leave the Wolf-Den, he was Noon-3pm. Rivers, has been doing the 10am-Noon shift and he will now do 10am-3pm.

Send your resumes to Cumulus Dir./Formats Charlie Cook, 14 Piedmont Center, Ste. 1400, Atlanta, GA 30305.

Knowing Cumulus like you do, do you really think they're going to hire any new people?

Cumulus will do what they have done in the recent past, go to another market, and find cheap lame "talent". ;D

The worst part of this deal, is they left smokey in charge.....no offense, but he's not batting that well as an on-air to begin with...

I can't believe they put Mr. Ed on the air to begin with. I thought he sounded too old for the room. Not lively enough, in fact I thought he sounded a lot like Smokey. I mean no disrespect to Ed, I know what kind of hard workin' radio guy he is. He's legendary in the midwest. I just didnt think it was a right fit from the beginning. I'm afraid of what Cumulus is doing to that station.

That's the problem. Putting young people on in all dayparts! Country is different from chr. Country cannot live on a 18-34 "Sound". Most of the songs most of the time skew older( 25-34 and up)

Bobby Mitchell was up but mature. Amy B was fine in middays. Cody was fine in Afternoons. Hollywood was fine at night. He was young sounding but was really in his 40's and could relate to both a very young adult as well as a 40 year old. Same with Mr.ED.

Cody is no morning man, Amy b is not afternoon drive material. The night guy is just obnoxious on the air. Also what affected the numbers were putting these god awful girls on late nights that sound like there 14 years old. It blows me away to hear what i hear in the 5th rated market.

Don't know if you can blame John Cook for all this. Charlie Cook Vp/Programming is known for putting lesser talent on he can mold and control.

It's really a shame to see a once mighty station fall. They'll bounce back into the 3's but not much more than a 3.5. I've been observing this market for years and have never heard a worse country battle in my life. I've seen better wars in Longview and Austin!

The R&R blurb about John Cook's resignation has a statement from Charlie Cook at Cumulus stating that John Cook '...has some other opportunities he may announce in the next couple of weeks.'

That, to me, sounds like a possible reassignment within the company. If John Cook were leaving on less-than-amicable terms Charlie Cook surely wouldn't know what the hell John was up to.

Yeah, but when your image is what it is at the wolf, a more mature sound is one thing, a sound that drags is another. I always liked Bobby Mitchell, and I understand why he's not there now. I've never really been a Cody fan in any daypart, and Hollywood was downright aweful (IMO) at night. I haven't heard much of the guy that replaced him. All in all, they could have just left everything the way it was, told Bobby to shape up and they'd be better off.

ALL RIGHT.. EVERYBODY. Let's sing CUME-LESS' favorite song. You know the rhythm, "Da-da-doo. doo. doo. da-ta-da-ta duh-da-duh. Another one bites the dust!" ;D

Amen, brutha! Cume-less always takes a good thing and ruins it. They haven't learned the lesson that you have to spend money to make money. They are content to just get by...which is why the talent and quality go bye-bye! :-*

Arrrrrgggggg! I had finally gotten that song out of my head, after having jokingly brought it up at work on Monday for a printer that died. Thanks a lot for putting that song back into my head again! :(
