KPLX

OOPS! My mistake the guy's name is Mark Phillips not Mike.

AllAccess yanked the article but I saw it earlier. Someone spill the beans?

Phillips Milk of Magnesia, a cumelsess cure all. His track record is spotty at best .

This guy must be good, because the last ratings for WWGR they we're in the Top 5

Um, I hope I can detect sarcasm better than this... but uh, TOP 6 in... where was that again, OH YEAH, Ft. Friggin' Myers, FL.

Good times in Big D indeed.

NOW NOW Voice. It is a chance for him to advance,as others would say. Considering in corp world radio there is a blurred line between medium and major market.

Touche. And come on, as a vet of Big D radio, I wish the guy well... but that is a lot of wishing with that they have been doing as of late.

I would hope folks could wish him well. KPLX has been pretty stale over the last year; maybe some outside thinking may help. According to the ratings off R&R's site, WWGR has been #1 for a while in the market against a couple of other stations and is not a Cumulus property. So, on the surface, it looks like they hired someone from outside the company that is successful in his current job --- certainly beats moving a tool from a failed station elsewhere in the Cumulus family.

Here's the scoop:

WWGR/Ft. Myers-Naples-Marco Island, FL PD/morning host Mark Phillips has been hired as a weekend air personality at KPLX "The Wolf"/Dallas. APD/MD Steve Hart is handling programming on an interim basis at WWGR. Phillips' move after seven years in Florida brings him closer to family in Texas.

The music is the problem. They need to get back to the format that made them great. New country with a whole lot of Texas country mixed in and the periodic classic track. People also like the imaging. Kill the repetition.

Agreed...musically it's no different than a station in Boston, Chicago, or any other market. Musically, KFWR is what KPLX used to be like and should be like now.
