KPLZ "Star 101.5" now streaming online

Star has finally joined the 21st century and is streaming online. They also seem to have made some minor programming changes and adjusted their library to be more contemporary, at least, I hope.

KPLZ and KMTT were the first two stations that streamed in Seattle back in the mid-nineties. I remember listening to the choppy streams over dial-up. Wonder why KPLZ got away from it? Nice to see they are back up.

One answer: $$$.

Between 2000-2001 there was a big to-do over music royalties and AFTRA fees for ads voiced by union talent that played online. Most stations pulled their streams off during that time. KPLZ just took longer to put the stream back on - most likely because of the tight financial situation at Fisher which is better now that they've dumped that onerous Mariners deal.

Another dollars-and-sense issue is whether they will be able to capitalize on that streaming-only revenue. Of all the Seattle signals (excluding the rimshots), the folks at 4th & Denny could use more cash more than anyone else.
