KPNX-Cable One Dispute

In the past few hours, KPNX has been warning its viewers in Cable One-serviced areas (Prescott area, White Mountains, Winslow, Holbrook, Globe) that they are about to lose Channel 12 as well as Flagstaff's Channel 2 due to a retransmission dispute. Either this will be resolved in the next few hours, or as witnessed in the Cable One-Nexstar Broadcasting dispute in Texas, this could get ugly.

It looks like KPNX/KNAZ aren't the only ones that are asking retransmission payment...

According to this article from the Holbrook Tribune-News, KPHO is still negotiating with Cable One for retransmission reimbursement from the cable company, but has extended its current contract as they work things out.

Was in Prescott on Wednesday and heard an ad from Cable One stating that KPNX/KNAZ were demanding retransmission payment from the Cable One viewers for what is received free of charge by those in Phoenix and Flagstaff. They (KPNX/KNAZ) removed the broadcast of Channels 2 and 12 from the Cable One system. Cable One suggested calling KPNX and voicing your displeasure and even gave out the Phoenix number for Channel 12. Cable One also suggested calling your elected officials.

Luckily, KNAZ is easy to pick up off-air in Prescott, Prescott Valley and Chino Valley, as is the Channel 6 Prescott KPNX translator on Mt. Francis. Suitable antenna and coax: about $45.
