KPPC 106.7 KROQ 106.7 Sign on dates

Hey Guys:

Would anybody know the exact sign on dates for Progressive Rock KPPC 106.7 in 1968 and
AOR KROQ 106.7 in 1973?

Is it true that KROQ left the air sometime in 1974 because all of the jocks left?

Thanks for your help on this one.

Exact? No. But KPPC-FM signed on in November, 1962. Tom Donahue took it free-form in late November or early December of 1967.

KPPC-FM became KROQ-FM November 12, 1973.

The jock walkout actually happened over time because paychecks bounced. Jay Stevens and PD Johnnie Darin were first...leaving in December, 1972...only 3 months after KROQ-AM launched as a Top 40 (Labor Day, 1972). Stevens went to KKDJ. Charlie Tuna joined him in November, 1973.

The financial issues caught up with the station beyond payroll in 1974. That's when they went dark. The FM went back on the air in 1976 after the FCC sent a notice to owner Gary Bookasta that his license would be revoked if the station didn't return to the air within 10 days.

Correction to myself: Charlie Tuna left KROQ for KKDJ in October, 1973. He posted a comment on Reelradio a few years back saying it was the second bounced paycheck that did it.
