KPQS-FM Waterford

Thanks - KPQW, Willows, has been pretty consistent on the air. When they do their local blocks they have pretty good ad loads for concerts, jaripeo (bullriding) and job announcement for employment in the rice processing plants.

I have no recollection of some of those other stations being on the air (if at all) recently. I don't see any value in KHMJ Trona but KEGT San Miguel would cover an interesting zone.

Just because they give an ID on the web stream does not mean the station is on the air. Hispanic Target Media has these stations licensed:
I wonder how many of these stations in California are actually on the air?

KHMU(FM) 100.9 MHz Buttonwillow CA
KOHM(FM) 105.7 MHz Ch. 289 Ridgecrest CA
KHMJ(FM) 95.1 MHz Trona CA
KEGT(FM) 106.5 MHz San Miguel CA
KUTM(FM) 92.7 MHz Kerman CA
KPQS(FM) 106.7 MHz Waterford CA
KPQW(FM) 106.3 MHz Willows CA
I will listen for 106.3 tomorrow going right by there.

I am not sure if it's a simple format change or if HTM informally has LMA'd KHMU, Buttonwillow (Bakersfield market). KHMU is now known as "La Fiera 100.9" with a "Pura Norteña" format. Their limited website is: La Fiera FM although their Facebook page is much more developed.

The audio stream remains the same: http://c2009.streamguys1.com:80/bakersfield1009fm
While the KHMU stream continues at the URL above I did find an alternate source for KUKY's Yuma-centric feed for stations like KPQW Willows. It would be:

Winamp? LMAO
That's shown on the stream's metadata.

Are all their stations which are on the air playing Spanish music? They've had a few country stations in the past, but some of those lost their tower sites apparently--I know of one who's equipment was sold by the tower owner to make up for unpaid rent.

The FCC last week granted the renewal of HTM's "central" station , KUKY in Wellton, Arizona.

Amazingly today all the California HTM properties got their licenses renewed. There was only an administrative note of about KPQS's tower renewal issue and some general oublic file concerns across all properties.

Stations getting renewals were:

* KHMU Buttonwillow. (Bakersfield)
* KUTM Kerman (Fresno)
* KOHM Ridgecrest
* KEGT San Miguel (Paso Robles)
* KHMJ Trona
* KPQS Waterford (Modesto)
* KPQW Willows

As you know things in reality may not match what's on paper.

KEGT, KHMJ and KOHM likely remain silent, if they were ever built,
KHMU and KUTM are undocumented LMAs with other groups.

I guess as long as those revenues for annual license fees make it to the Headquarters then everything remains fine.

Wow! KPQS Radio Amigo in Waterford even could be heard on I-5 this weekend, albeit weak. Nothing like those ads for restaurants in Yuma showing up on Central Valley airwaves.

I did not hear Trona while in that area last week. San Miguel..¿Quién sabe? Who knows? Has it ever been on the air?

That Waterford station is under built. Meaning, the allotment wouldn’t have happened unless a full A would be possible. The tower is way too short.

KZIS in Sacramento was an exception since the short spaced Class B allotment was grandfathered.

HTM just filed a detailed amendment to their Class A 106.7 KPQS Waterford (Modesto) application. They proposed a 3kw non-directional using one of the KVIN towers.

The main concern is the shortspace protection with Class B KEZR 106.5 San José:

Isn't this graph all wrong? Let's see. They're 200kHz apart... So. KEZR's 54 dBu F(50,10) should not overlap with KPQS's F(50,50) 60 dBu . Likewise KPQS's 48dBu F(50,10) should not overlap KEZR 's F(50,50) .. Right ? 6 dB down? Yes, KEZR has to be evaluated as a 50kw , 150M HAAT, and not consider its null at 35 degrees. (There's terrain masking too.) In any case can't KPQS squeeze out a few more watts here?

Oh yes, the HTM's multiple Interests listing forgot to mention KEBT, San Miguel, California... as if it's ever on the air anyway..

HTM appears to have ended the lease-out of KHMU Buttonwillow to La Fiera (still streaming though). Over the air KHMU has returned to a feed of KUKY (Wellton AZ).

No sign of KPQS Waterford during my Valley drive today. What this means is that KJUG can be heard all the way to the Interstate junction in Tracy. Wow! Amazing coverage for KJUG.

KOHM has been off the air for a very long time.

Update - No sign of KPQS on today's trip to Modesto.

Meanwhile, KFFW-LP 107.7 Atwater was running open carrier the whole time.

The two local stations running Lazer's La Mexicana format, KMEN (FM) and KTNS (AM) .were heard carrying Giants baseball in Spanish. More details here:

Apparenrly several Lazer Broadcasring affiliates are carrying the games.
