KPRC Dumps NBC for HS Football

You know, NBC used to really frown on pre-empting primetime programming like that. Being a non O&O, it's certainly more likely to happen, but has it really gotten that lackadaisical between the network and its local affiliates? It's pretty rare for one of our big 4 locals to break away for anything other than weather.

Even for O&O stations, if there is a compelling sales or community-related reason to preempt network programming, usually there's no problem getting approval.
Affiliates have even more leeway, provided they don't preempt heavily promoted prime-time programming.

Considering that the Writers Strike delayed the Fall Season to Spring 2024, it's not surprising that local stations would rather program something that may interest the local community more than the 15th network rerun of a L&O:SVU episode or a Canadian replacement series. In our house, at least, NBC stands for "NoBody Cares".

There's a lot of Texas high school football on YouTube every Friday. The production quality on some of those games -- by local cable companies, I presume -- is better than what ESPN+ offers on some of its college games from lesser conferences.
